Default new owner of nismo1143 - track tires

hi this is my first post in this forum, i have been a proud owner of a honda S2000 the last few years. seen the nismo at the detroit auto show and decided it was going to be my next car.... i only had it a week so far and i do like it..........its so nice to have torque again. one thing i dont like about the car is the tire set up. i do participate in a few time attacks during the year, and i want to keep the rims on the car and not spend 2800 on a set of volks. so i will sacrifice a little time from my laps to keep my stock rims. i went to different rear tire size 285/35/19 the tire fits the rim soooo much better it 1/2 inch taller, 1inch wider and actually has a sidewall a hair bigger than the front. also i changed my tires to a michelin ps2..... anyone that tracks there z...... is there anything i should be aware or concerned with? also i look forward to meeting some of you and learning more about this car

Congrats, I'm number#1140. I think 265 is better.
Less rubber you have over the side of wheel, better road feel your going to have also less body roll as well.

It's reason why nissan had rays build 19x10 wheel and put only 265.35. in rear.

the best setup (for money and feel on the track) is using 4 lmgt4 wheels (you can get those from the usual ebay seller) 18*9.5 all corners (if you pm that seller you can get it for a damn good price) and put 265/35 or 275/35 at all corners.. or even 255/35.

no staggered setup IMHO not useful on a FR car... have better bracking, less understeer and you can rotate the tires.

I track my car and I just changed my tire setup to the Michelin ps2 too as of today, I'm hopeing to take her back out in a couple of months to compare. The stock setup was ok till my first track day. Let me know how you like the new tires.

Nissan went cheap on tires IMO. A 10" wheel should come with no less than 275s. If you do increase the rear tire size however, the fronts should be also be up-sized accordingly.

Ataru pointed it out, but more tire will yield more grip. On the Z, a square setup, meaning the same tire size all around is preferred.

Wider tires dont' always make for better road feel.

On my old 08 Touring setup I had 225.45.18 front 245.45.18 in rear.

Back wheels always would bake lose on hard coners and VDC would kick in.

I have not had that problem with nismo setup.

Volk wheels with lips are basically show wheels, not track wheels.

Don't know how wider tires would effect road feel, but greater overall grip should result.

Well other than the NISMO not having VDC, the wider footprint should help on those same corners.

IT all depends on the tire and suspension setup, but wider will always have better grip. That also depends if you got a good tire for grip as well and not some cheap tires.

Wider tire will also slow down car as well.

Yea, but on a track speed is not always the case...I rather have more grip in the turns. :P

Yeah, I agree with turns but I think running tires over 285 on Z is just for looks.

Most of the time very wide tires are simply for looks, but 275-285s are very functional for the power on the HR.

Wider than that however, there are diminishing returns and will likely be just for looks unless one is running FI.

I think the guy named Eagle with 315's on his G35 all around. He does very well. Watch some of his videos. The grip he gets is unreal.
