NEW TOYS FOR MY NISMO!!
The NismoZ is an awesome car and so is the M3 having a lap time almost a half second faster than the nismo, but for the money there is no comparison to a NismoZ on a road course. Heck for that matter the Rev-Up still dominates the CanD fast lap so you can imagine where the Nismo would be.
I understand both sides, but I personally wouldn't use a Nismo for a project car. Especially since you can do the same mods on a non-nismo and get the same results.
At the same time, to each his own. I guess one of the benefits of modding a Nismo is you'll get more money back for your OEM parts.

Thats just one of the many things done to the NISMO that set it a part from the rest.
I have driven many 350Z's (stock and modified) and none had handeling even close to the NISMO. That's what sparked me to purchase one. Hell, I was going to get the Lotus Elise and decided on the NISMO instead! That in itself should tell you that the difference in the handeling is incredible.
To add, yes, being able to beat the M3 and the M3 having a best lap time of only a half second faster is incredible. Also, that half second probably would not have existed if the NISMO was not in the lead. Why? Well think about it, the driver of the NISMO was in the lead by a good stretch most of the race. When your in the lead, there is no reason to push your limits unless you are fighting for that lead. By this thought, the NISMO may be able to accomplish a better lap time than the M3.
Outside of stripping the car down, you could never get the same results. The NISMO is a version setup for handeling. The seams of the frame are "hand welded" to improve stability, and different dampers are installed to compensate for the extra vibration that occurs from this.
