Nismo 350Z vs Nismo 370Z
Has any review site done any comparisons between the 2 different Nismos?
It seems that when the Nismo 350Z came out all the reviews were positive and it was far better than the competition for the price.
Now the Nismo 370Z is out and it is getting smoked by everything.
How do these 2 stack up against eachother?
It doesn't make sense to me how the Nismo 370 is getting beat by the competition when it has plenty of hp and decient torque, with a 3300 lbs curb weight (which is decient).
The only big difference I noticed is that it is not seam welded like the Nismo 350Z.

The weight is actually that of the Nismo 350Z. The Nismo 370's brakes are trash. The nismo brakes fade after only a few laps. Sort of like the GTR and it's inconsistency with tires. The car makes good power, but when compared to cars like the Cayman S which makes less power, but has alot better balance, better brakes, and much better handling at the highest limit there is a huge gap of difference.
The Nismo 370Z isn't really a true racebred at all. In fact it is more like a trophy case car. Otherwise it would be like the GT3RS when compared to the GT3, or the M3 to the M3 CSL. It needs a more hardcore approach at being a thoroughbred and not a trophy case car and that's why it's slow compared to it's main rivals.
To me it's a huge setback when compared to the Japan spec only 380RS, which in 07 when it was introduced made 350 hp and struck with brute force to the Germans and Americans. Nissan has it in there hearts to build great cars but only for Japan. The US still continues to recieve the shitty end of the stick.

That sounds about right. Nissan made the NISMO 370z a little more streetable, where as they made the NISMO 350z practically a full blown track car. On the Tsukuba circuit, the NISMO 370z's fastest lap was only .020 seconds faster than the NISMO 350z, so there isn't a huge difference from the 370z to the 350z.

The 370 Nismo is quicker than the 350 Nismo (1/4 mi.). But the 350 nismo out handles the 370 easily. The first turn I went into in the 370 nismo I test drove.I took the turn like l was in my 350 nismo and almost spun it out. Did not stick or dig into the turn. The 370 nismo cars are good for a drifter not a bad a$$ handeling car.Thats my .02!!!

370 Nismo is a tiny bit faster at Tsukuba per Best Motoring. Not enough to say anything definitive, too many variables (weather, driver, tires, etc.) even running at the same track...
370 Nismo: 1:06.643
350 Nismo: 1:06.663
370: 1:06.669
350: 1:07.87

However on Top Gear the 370 smoked the 350 (both non-Nismo) 1.27.5 vs. 1.31.8.

Even with real lap times, it stills rings of bench racing...
If anyone has 370 Nismo in the Denver area, we can do some testing at the local tracks
I have run at High Plains Raceway with a 370Z (chasing) and I wasn't leaving them behind...

so, people that track or autocross the car should know better that tire difference is enough to steal some time from one car to another...
the 370 is FASTER, period... better setup, less understeer, more power to weight ratio... BUT, at least for me, the disappointment comes because there isn't a real "upgrade"... it'a a new, lighter chassis, the suspension geometry is improved, shorter wheelbase, less understeer, more power... and the difference on a lap time is about 1 / 1.5 seconds compared to a 350z with an HR engine???
my disappointment is right there. is more a "speedbump" than a real upgrade...
looking at other car... like the first generation viper compared to the actual one.. the C5 Z06 or C5 regular vette compared to the C6...
E46 M3 compared to the E9x M3
all the actual are less "race car" and more daily driver... but the performance at the end was increased quite a while....
not between a 350HR Z and a 370VHR Z..... this is what happened in europe on the previous generation M3.. E36 with 320+ HP on a lighter package compared to the E46 with 343, heavier but with more overall chassis... and way better tires to begin with, for the sake of bench racing.

here's one thing to think about, the caymanS was purposely built to be less capable than it actually was to keep it from competing with the 911, the nismo 370z is pretty much targeted straight at the caymanS so does that mean that the nismo is also maybe not quite as good so it doesn't encroach on the top dog R35? could it have been better and still stayed at the same price point? if you are going to build a "NISMO" Z car, why should it be made for the street? maybe i'm a "purist" but i think a Z with a NISMO badge (at least from the factory) should be a track car in the purist form they can get the bean counters to go along with. i think the 380RS would have done well if it came out in the US too, unfortunately we'll never know...

I have some great back roads by me which I feel I get to use a good amount of the extra equiptment on the Nismo.
It's all about personal satisfaction.
I have been to an auto X to really test the Nismo and it was ok. If you think about it logiclly for someone who doesn't really care all that much about comfort (me) I would rather have a car that handles better, for the fun factor, and the O **** someone just decided to slam on their brakes at 80 mph and I have to dodge them, safety factor.
Plus the Nismo is different. Not only is it enjoyable to drive, and gives me confidence where the base would not, every time I walk back to it in the garage after a day at work I smile.... That's what matters the most to me
I hate when people say "If you're not going to take it to the track you should get the "regular" one. F' That.
If I had the oppurtunity to get a GT3 or GT3 RS, I'd go with the RS in a heartbeat.
How many Ferrari owners track their cars? My guess from driving through Florida a few weeks ago is very few. They just wash them and stick them in their driveways, (or in one case a revolving glass room) and are afraid to drive them anywhere.
I get owning a rare car is nice, but I would drive that damn thing all over the place. To me a car is ment to be driven. Not necessarily at the track, but I personally couldn't justify just keeping it as a showpiece. That is what makes me so happy about owning a Nismo is that every aspect of the car is functional, and I think it's one of the best looking cars within its price range as well.
