How many people do you think are going to want to cut their exhaust apart?

We are currently about to start the process of bring the exhaust out the side of my car and doing a full diffuser. At that point it will be much easier to setup openings on it for a lot of exhaust systems.

Also, if I remember correctly, this was banned (last year?) because it caused serious issues with any car following. Enough that there was a safety issue for those drivers folowing a car with this setup.

I could be wrong or mistakening it for something else that was recently banned.

No... it was banned because everyone else's system sucked compared to Red Bull's. It had nothing to do with safety. And it was banned at the request of, you guessed it, McLaren racing-pedigree-super-fantastic whining and bitching to the FIA.

Christian Horner, speaking to Autosport, agreed that the move was likely in response to his teams immense speed during qualifying.

"It is inevitable and the unfortunate consequence of success," he said, whilst noting that the change would affect almost every team on the grid.
Now the FIA has banned this practice, saying ECU maps can't be altered between qualifying and the race, prompting some - including McLaren - to suggest the tearaway pace of Red Bull might be pegged back.
“The financial, technical and human resources required to support such developments, as well as the impact on engine reliability and on fuel consumption are totally contrary to the objectives pursued by the FIA, the teams and the engine manufacturers.”

The reason for the ban is the FIA is unhappy that 'hot blowing' is a waste of fuel, and believe that blown diffusers in general are making use of moving parts of the engine to influence aerodynamics, and therefore infringe a regulation against moveable aerodynamic devices. Williams technical director Sam Michael told Autosport that the Technical Working Group
Also, by the time it was banned, Redbull wasn't the only one using the blown diffuser design.

Here is a diffuser similar to the Red Bull Racing RB7 one on F1technical.net. The exhaust would blow through the last set of strakes/channels on each side. The only problem with this design is that the beginning of the base has to curve up so it doesn't catch air above the base and gets caught up in the inside of the rear bumper.

This might actually be functional if made. Maybe track times with it installed and off would be a way to prove it.

it all depends on how far it goes to the diff or if it's just on the rear bumper as an add on flare...
