What shouldn't you do on the stock engine?

Hey all. Recently totaled my z (rip </3) and I'm picking up an 08 NISMO tonight.
Everything under the hood is stock, new brembos and stock interior and I'm wondering which upgrades you shouldn't do without others.
Yes, I've searched around but this isn't really set in stone, it's mostly built on opinions of veterans which is why I've decided to create a thread.
The first thing that I'm planning on getting is a pair of Stillen cold air's and installing them myself. Trying to do as much work as possible by myself or with my stepdad and get my hands dirty learning all the in's-and-out's of the z. I've seen them before, they increase performance and add a beautiful sound quality, especially on top of the NISMO exhaust.
As far as other upgrades (I don't even know what headers are, that's my noob level) I suppose my specific question is what should I not do without doing something else first?
For example, you don't put a turbo onto a stock engine. I'm wondering what else not to do and why.
Thanks for your time.

you're asking a very complicated question. why don't you start with creating a goal for yourself and go from there? considering your inexperience with cars, I'd say start with basics: intake/exhaust/tune and learn along the way.

Thanks for the legit response.
For the others,
That and driver mod. Like I said in my thread, I spent 4 years learning to drive the Nismo stock. As for boosting, it's definitely not cheap. If you need transportation with the Z, just do full bolt ons/tune and be done. That way you can just drive it w/o worrying about it.
