Default Help with MSD window switch for ZEX kit.

I have read all the nitrous threads on here, but I am stuck at a point where I can't complete my install and I don't want to take it to a shop to get raped.

I was trying to find out how to get an RPM signal to the MSD window switch.

Also, where can I get a throttle position signal for the ZEX NMU.

After I figure these out I will take it in to have the plugs changed and see if they can retard my timing.

Thanks in advance for your help.

you can tap the TPS off the throttle body for your NMU and tap the lead off the number one cylinder for your window switch.

mabey someone can chime in and tell you what color and were the wires are located

The switch also must be modified for 1 cylinder application and for 5 volts.

can you explain that?

also that ECU link is dead . can someone else please fix it so i may see. Why cant you tap the wires directly off the throttle body and the cylinder? is there a benifit from tapping at the ECU?

I don't believe you'll have that issue if you use the Mallory switch insteadt of the MSD. According to NX it's also not an issue if you have a maximizer (I'm about to find out....)

I just went ahead and called MSD today and found out that I have the old model and need the newer one for DIS or send mine in to have it modified. That problem is solved, now all I need to do is find a signal for the throttle position for the ZEX NMU. I will try the 50 pin on the ECU tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes. Also, will the ECU give a signal even though the car isn't running?

My instructions said to retard my timing. Without a distributor, is it possible to do that with the stock ecu?

Thanks for all your help

So why tap the ecu and not the acctual lead from the tps or the cylinder?

THe ECU can take up to -4 degrees out on it's own. That should be good for 100 shot.

you can test the TPS with the ignition turned on but the car not running. You can test by using a voltmeter , when you hit wot it should give you a 4 volt signal

here's a good link as well, it's an install manual for the Edelbrock Dry system for the 350Z. They have detailed instruction on where an dhow to set up the tps connection.
note: in the manual they say pin 50 green wire...later on they have a listing and it says pin 35 green wire.... everywhere I looked so far it was supposed to be pin 50 so keep that in mind

I looked eveywhere on the ECU harness and I could not find a green wire at pin50. I am installing this in a G35, do you think they have different colors and locations? Why can't I just tap into the TPS on the throttle body. What if I gave the NMU a false 4volt signal for 10seconds to learn it and then just hook it ip to the TPS?

What do you guys think?

this is not something you don't want to mess with. If you hook up the wrong connections your engine might go boom.
I don't know anything about the g35 if it has a different ecu or wirng harness. I suggest looking on a more specific g35 site I'm sure someone has done this already.
I believe tapping into the TPS on the throttle body should work but can't confirm it since I haven't done it

Don't bother with a TPS signal. The zex kit can only take
max 6 volts input and the TPS signal goes way out of range.
Use The PPS(PEDAL POSITION SENSOR) right under the dash
YELLOW WIRE coming out of the sensor above the accelerator
pedal. Zex tech is garbage and don't know what there talking
about. Did my own research with the Z PC Manual and figured out more than any tech at zex could have told me. Everything runs cool smooth and couldn't be happier.

By the way I have a Z, so as far as the yellow wire, yours may be a different color. You need to hook up to pedal position sensor 1.

Ok thanks, I will try that tomorrow. Dreamy-z, did you retard your timing? Also, what voltage does the PPS put out? What shot are you spraying and are you happy with ZEX?
