Almost, but not quite. Water/methanol injection does two major things relevant to this thread:

1) It directly suppresses detonation. Another way of saying this is that it adds octane. All octane is, is simply a measure of resistance to detonation. Hence needing more octane when you do modifications that drastically increase power by increasing cylinder pressure on the combustion stroke. AKA Nitrous.

2) It cools the combustion process. This is trememndously helpful in situations where you might get red-hot exhuast valves causing trouble like pre-igniton.

Having said that, what water/meth does for a nitrous car is make it so you can run more timing than would otherwise be possible, without detonation issues.

About the HP/TQ issue:

Nitrous add oxygen, which allows for more fuel to be burned in an efficient ratio with the oxygen. This releases more energy and makes more power. Chemical Supercharger.

The way that the release of energy makes power is by pushing on the piston, this we all understand. What I think is not often mentioned is that this push on the piston is basically the measure of the cylinder pressure. TQ is directly related to it. This is why you tend to get spark knock aka detonation most often at the same RPM that you get peak TQ. Detonation is a result of high pressure and temperature causing a overly-rapid burn of the air/fuel mix. So cylinder pressure is great, until it causes detonation.

So who cares? We do in this case, because this explains how nitrous works in terms of RPM, HP, and TQ.

Nitrous does not make HP directly. In fact nothing theoretically makes HP directly because HP is simply TQ with RPM factored in. All these mods create cylinder pressure in one way or another, which makes TQ. TQ and RPM makes HP.

The fact that nitrous is talked about in terms of a HP shot is mostly a naming convention. A "150 shot" will make a lot more or less than 150 depending on the car if the amount of nitrous and fuel injected remains constant. A "150 shot" at 9000 RPM will make obscene HP gains due to RPM multiplication compared to a 150 shot on a car that shifts at 6000RPM. It happens to work pretty well, and its easy to understand, which is why everyone uses it.

Well Im a example! I have a NA based tune from AAM. I then a year later put a dyno tune Nitrous system on ive been running the 75shot for awhile I backed the timing down 2 degrees using the Nissan Consult. ive just recently put a 160 shot on the car and put 370Z plugs in becouse there 1 step colder. I have not backed down the timing any more and ive gone thru 2 bottles using the 160 shot setup. The car runs great and loves it. I have over 40K miles on the car and still using the stock clutch. But if i powershift the clutch will slip with the 160 shot. Next mod JWT clutch and flywheel combo.

Interesting. You have a HR Z, though, which is supposedly more stout compared to DEs. You should, technically, be able to spray more without issues. DEs have been proven to take up to about 150 shot with a proper tune.

What were the jet sizes for the "160 shot?"

^ 80 shot by Dynotune's ratings maybe, but it's about a 55 shot on NX's shot ratings. Either way, that's for each side of the intake manifold. He has a HR engine. He's spraying more than what you think.
