The 06 airbox has a venturi ring unlike the earlier years.

Its caused by flow. The new stock box design allows better flow into the tube. The actual exterior of the box is the same but there is an addition of the ring inside the box to allow for better flow. I believe there are a couple aftermarket intakes that get better gains but the K&N filter is just as effective or better the most intake modifications.

I went take a look at the new 370Z last night. It was the blue. I like it much better in person. Blue looks good. The interior is great. Huge upgrade front the 350Z. And to top it all off, it was unlocked. Somebody forgot to lock it up. I off course opened it and checked it out.
