I am trying to do the install for my head unit but its not powering up. What should be my first thing to check?

Seems like all the wires are matched up to their proper ones.

The bose works fine. When I switch out the bose with my new unit, and connect the two wiring harness pieces, no power to my new unit.

Did you hit the power button?

Try grounding it to the chassis if it isn't.

Do I need to ground the wire to the actual car, or can I jsut connect it to the wire harness ground wire? Shouldnt it connect up with the factory ground wire?

if you have a wire harness then that should work. i didnt need any additional grounds on my headunit with the harness. check any fuses on it. sometimes there is a large fuse on the back of the unit next to the wire harness. if it still doesnt work then ground it somewhere that is bare metal

double check your connections as well, something may not be connected completely or connected wrong

Seems like everything is connected properly.

Im hoping the unit isnt damaged...

If I disconnect all the wires and start over again, which wires do I need to connect jsut to test power? The power wire and the ground?

All you should need to get the unit to power on is the yellow (constant), red (ignition), and black wire (ground) IIRC.

And if that doesnt work, then it must be the unit?

You can try to test light just to make sure you're getting power to the unit. If it's getting power, it's gotta be the unit I'd think.

So i just unhooked the red yellow and black wires. I grounded the black to a screw and it worked. Any idea why it wasnt grounding through the stock harness ground?

Also, whats the best place to ground behind the dash? I just have it grounded into a screw by the shift **** right now.

There isn't really a stock harness ground from what I've heard, not 100% sure if that's true or not

Shouldn't be too hard to find metal back there, I can't remember where mine was.

The black wire on the harness says chasis - ground, so I figured it would work. Apparently not.

Now I have power, but no sound, haha. Any more bright ideas?

Just did a search and one suggestion was to connect the blue/white amplifier wire. Didnt think I had to connect that one because I dont have an amp, but apparently it still needs to be connected.
