it costs a lot to mod cars. if you want to go fast cheap.. go buy a camara SS or Trans Am and get a big *** cam put in it and some heads and throw a 100 shot of nitrous. 500+ rwhp and you have a 25,000$ car. It also will look way better than the Z

i am not saying it cost 50 to get 500 hp i was just saying if you bought the car new that the car would cost about 30000. i was just useing round numbers. i know you can pick up a used z for less than 20000 these days and if your gonna build the motor it doesnt really matter how many miles you have on it. i have checked a few places and to get 500 whp it will cost about 20000 with parts and labor. i was just adding the cost of the car and the cost of the parts and labor together.

camaro/firebird look better then the z? i dunno about all that lol. but the single turbo investment u made seems like the way to go for me. i dont wanna invest 20k into my car. id be happy beating c6 vettes and having an extra 10k in my pocket.

lol not too much over 6k

man trust me this stuff cost more than you think.

Install and tune on that kit will be over $2k (assuming it is a single) and more for a twins setup. As far as the utec you will want to factor in the map switch, map sensor which will total up to about $1,000. Then you probably want a boost controller(low end=$150 high end=$550). Now you will also need to have a way to monitor your AFR so then you need a wideband($300) then you need to upgrade the clutch ($300). As you can see like thomas and lee have said this **** adds up quick.

My setup so far has cost me about $6500 and i got some helacious deals on parts and i will be doing the install myself probably. I am either going to have corr tune it or fly in Jeremey or Sharif to tune it.

Just to give you a breakdown:
SFR TT kit w/ ball bearing T3/T4 60-1 hi-fis $5120 (tuner kit)
SFR wastegate dumps
Tial 38mm wastegates w/ 7.25psi spring
RC 440cc injectors
Utec w/ map sensor
Clutchmasters stage 4 clutch
Zeitronix WBO2
HKS SSqv
Defi guages (still need to purchase)
walboro 255 fuel pump
Altered Atmosphere fuel return basic kit (still need to get)

As you can see my setup will cost over 7000 and i am even skimping on a few things. Don't take this as me trying to discourage you, just want you to be prepared before you take the plunge because it can get very discouraging to keep dumping money

you'd be suprised the more affordable ones aren't "that" powerful. I saw one with simple exhaust boltons and a tune only put down like 430whp.

PM'd ya buddy. Feels good to be back in the South? Me and my friend will be doing the install at his shop. Not sure about the tuning situation yet (never messed w/ tunning before) but i have been reading through the utec user manual and it deff isn't rocket science.

BTW there are going to be some sick cars around here now. Another local guy named Jason is getting a fully built long block w/ jwt cams, hks fcon v pro, and greddy twins done at performance factory. His car should be ready in a couple of weeks.

UTEC is cake. Base map + light foot + street tuning + pleanty of patience = big $$$ over having a tuner do it. I have my UTEC in now with 650cc's and it runs okay using the ZERO coloum to tweak the MAF voltage. Not too worried about NA power, just adding parts until I get settled and have the time for the Greddy install.

So good to be back. Had red beans and rice at The River Shack yesterday for lunch YUMMY!!!! Soft shell crab poboy at Franky and Johnies last week YES!!!

The North East can suck a nut!

All this talk about FI is making me wet. Chi, FI isn't cheap, but if you think you can do it in your budget go ahead.

Lee, who's car are you working on?

ha it was that bad up there ? I know the food sucks.

Your planning on tunning w/ the map sensor right? I'll probably do the same with adding parts slowly before jumping in on the kit.

Btw have you messed with the target air/fuel equation that is on txs website? Seems pretty uselful.

also when making adjustments in the 0 load column offsetts the maf voltage which in turn functions like the injector scalling on the e-blue right?

Used C5 Z06 with bolt ons and slicks puts you close to 10's

Stock C6 Z06 is just tires away from 10's

If I had the money to build a 500whp Z the right way than I would not be driving a Z.

some food for thought

Now for what I am into doing, which is more auto-x and road racing than drag racing, I would do the same things Bradley has done.

His car with a set of R-Comps will compete for FTD(Fastest Time of the Day) and ever auto-x.

Have you ever thought of what you want to do with the car? Do you just want to drag race?

i wouldnt be driving a z either if i had the money to build it 500whp the right way. id use that money for a downpayment on a house or something lol. im thinkin about using my car for track but i want it to be a little faster. im not too into drag cuz it seems like whoever has more money to put into their car pretty much wins that.
