When I do a processes like that, I go with claybar, Meguair's cleaner wax then polish, and Black Magic Liquid Wax.

Most of the "steps" that people fear and complain about are necessary no matter which product you use. A good detailing job starts with preparation, the final result will be no better than the prep you do.
You could get by with just washing the car and putting on a layer or two (or three) of Z-2 and call it a day. Or you could spend the day (or two) washing, claybaring then applying Z-5, Z-2 and/or Z-6. It just depends or how "detail oriented" you want to be.
It does work as good as they claim. It goes on easy, comes off easy, and lasts a long time and of course, it looks great.
