NOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Get 40"+ 240hz
Honestly I would go with plasma because the refresh rate is a lot higher(600hz) so you won't notice any streaking in video games and fast paced action movies like you do in 60hz and 120hz LCD/LED.

LOL - it's the dissenting voice! Welcome back, Alex.
I've been told by more than one person to avoid the plasma. I'll keep looking until I find a really good deal on a large screen TV.

that 600hz that he is talking about was only brought forward by plasma manufacturers because LCD panels always had a refresh rate rated by hz.... even the LCD refresh rates are BS because they may only refere to gray to gray refresh rates.
refresh rates are meaningless on plasma. what they telling you is a sub-field refresh rate, which in no way is comparable to what is being discussed in terms of ghosting (or as Alex referred to it "streaking")
the technology in plasma don't have the cons that one sees in an LCD. IN our particluar discussion; Plasma pixels switch (refresh if you will) at somewhere around 1-mircosecond. this is thousands of times faster than an LCD is capable of.... basically plasma technology in itself is what eliminates the ghosting/blurring/streaking that plagues LCD. LCD uses semi-truthful Hz ratings or gimicky interpolation to overcome the weaknesses of the technology.
Then we can have the discussion on LED.... don't be fooled by it. simply stated it is an LCD panel exactly as was offered for yrs. manufacturers have simply changed the back lighting from CCFL to light emitting diodes... just like you would change your halogen bulbs in your house to LED bulbs. did that change the room you were looking at? simply changed how it was lit. You are still looking at the same LCD panel, with the same limitations... heck, sometimes more as LED has a higher tendency to be a higher color temp, making the blues even more pronounced in the display... and then we can discuss the back lighting issues that can be made more apparent by LED back lighting on some lower end displays.
I say if you are concerned about burn-in, you should just buy an LCD... If you are looking at displays around 40" and 300 bucks, you aren't buying much, in terms of quality, so to have this thorough of a discussion on a low end display is not even really worth it
Merry Late Christmas and Happy Early New Year; I got lots of Z stuff.....>Dave stick with a LCD or LED; the one benefit of plasmas over LCD's or LED's is getting a larger TV for a relatively low price.
LED's are much better based on the background of the diodes that illuminate the picture. Brands do matter on HDTV's (quality build & life) good luck.

and
- they handle motion better
- have more natural picture including more accurate colors
- don't suffer from back lighting issues
- don't suffer from off axis viewing issues
and most importantly
- have better blacks

Cheap is a relative term. What I meant was that I didn't want to buy an off brand that has terrible reviews and think I'm getting a deal for $150. I've seen some sales for what I think are good brand names for anywhere between $400 to $600. Right now, I have a Panasonic 42" that's about 2 years old. It's pretty good. I might get something equivalent to it for the gaming systems.
Thanks for all the tips and suggestions.

Wow, Fedex really messed up a simple shipment from Illinois that was supposed to be at my house last Friday. It's lost somewhere in the metro and probably won't be here until after the new year. Lame-O
