Boyland Nissan Meet July 10, 2010 - Macomb, MI
I spoke with the GM over at Boyland Nissan yesterday and we are all confirmed for this event on Saturday, July the 10th.
We're still in the planning stages so if there's anything that you'd like to see at this event, please give me some ideas.
I've set up a NIODetroit site on Facebook so that I can keep of who attending and who is not.
I hope to see you there!

I think I'll make this one.
Suggestion: They should advertise more and make this an event to drawin in customers. Personally, I felt like last year's event scared away customers.
1) Put up a tent. Put a GT-R or a 370Z or something out there. This is a time for them to show off. Tents get attention from the road.
2) The need to put signs on the road. "Car Show Saturday" Get people to pull in.
3) Leave space up front or a path to the back so folks can pull in and park to see the show and check out the inventory. If it looks like there's no where to park or they might have to pay to get in, they won't stop.
4) The guys showing are your attraction. Some of us drive an hour + to get there. Not to mention all the time cleaning and preparing for the show. Take care of them with trophies or a free lunch. Last year I think I spent $5 on a couple hot dogs and a can of coke so I could help draw customers to the dealer.
5) Maybe open the show up to more than Nissans but give the Nissans the prime parking spot. Afterall, isn't the show supposed to be a promotion for the dealer and not for us Nissan drivers? We've already got Nissans. You want a full lot of modified cars. For now, even if they are not all Nissans.
6) Put your top show cars inside the dealer lobby. That R34 will draw people inside. Folks fear the dealer lobby thinking a sales guy will jump on them. Give em a reason to come in.
7) Work with a local speed shop that has a portable dyno. (The kind that mounts to the hubs or porta chassis dyno. This will draw in folks to display their cars. Does Oakos Automotive have one?
8) See if local speed shops want to attend for the price of donating some parts of discounts on services. These shops are not the competition to the dealer. The speed shops love the chance to attend. Get them to sponsor the hot dogs or pop. Free cheap food keeps the car show owners happy.
9) Same goes for custom services. Powder coating, painting, custom fabrication, etc. Would a body shop do fender rolling on site? Hell, they could sell the tools while they do demonstrations.
10) If there is a local track that wants to setup a table, they could offer discounts and talk about events.
11) Offer parts counter discounts for today only. 25% off or try moving some of their old accessories that have been gathering dust in the mezzanine. (I bet they have T-top inserts for 280Z and 300Z's just sitting up there. These old parts are rarely asked for by Z owners and they fade or break over time. Someone would be thrilled to have access to what the dealer thinks is junk.
12) Get a local DJ to play some tunes. Or ask a local radio station to attend. (Free advertisement!!)
13) Did I mention free food?
14) Consider t-shirts for the event. (More advertisement)
15) Do tech sessions in the back. (How to align a lowered car. In other words, what the car owner needs to add like toe bolts and adjustable arms so the alignment can be set.)
I used to drive all the way to Elmhurst Illinois to attend a dealer car show. The show grew year after year and it became a huge event with cars coming from 6 or 7 states. The more you get donations from participating partners, the less the cost to the dealer. In turn, that became the coolest dealer to the performance fan base. The dealer would begin to sell performance parts and in some cases sell cars tricked out (new) with these parts. The dealer invested in the people so the people stayed loyal to the dealer. Right now, there are no cool Nissan dealers that I trust.

I am compilling ideas and suggestions into a powerpoint presentation so that I can "sell" it to the dealership(s).
You're input is greatly appreciated.
Hey Nismo Titan:
Count me in on this again. I have the silver/black built motor 350z that was at the last Boyland meet in July 09. A little off topic, but I remember someone saying that Boyland would do work for us at a discounted rate? I'm a remembering that correctly?
Both of my Z's windows are stuck down. I have a new window motor, regulator and switch for the passenger side already but I'm looking for a place to not rape me to install and reset the window and also do the driver side one too. Any thoughts or help is appreciated. Thanks bro.

Just an update:
I met with GM Joe Kern on March 6th and presented a lot of the ideas that I collected. This included multiple ideas from Brian and other folks. One particular idea that was well received was the one about having a big car show: one for Nissans/Datsuns/Infinitis and one for the rest. This is going to be opened up to everyone.
I should be getting additional information in the coming weeks for distribution but don't forget to mark you calendars for this as it promises to be a very big event!

Thanks and I hope to see you there!

For those of you that missed us yesterday in Canton, we're having another meet in July. Don't miss what will be a great event, hosted by Boyland Nissan!
This meet is not just open to all Nissans, Infinitis and Datsuns but everyone is welcome. In fact, we will be have a big car show with prizes and trophies... it'll be the Nissans versus the rest.
I hope to have a flier available for posting here sometime this week so please keep an eye out.
Please tell everyone about this event!
