warming up your cars
I was curious how long you guys warm your cars up on these cold mornings.I was always told to let the engine run for about thirty seconds to get the oil to the top of the block before moving.Thoughts?
Hi Bob,
I've always heard that you should warm for no more than a minute or so, then no hard acceleration until she gets up to normal operating temp... BTW, were you on RT.28 northbound in Centreville on Sunday afternoon? I passed by a CS & waved but I don't think the driver saw me (I was going southbound).

Hey Mike,
That's what I thought, but I wanted a second opinion.I think of it everytime I start the car and have been wanting to post.I was at the Redskins game on Sunday and I didn't drive the Z (afraid it would get hurt). Went in my girl's Camry. Was a pleasure meeting you and your lovely wife....Bob

I've heard what Mike said. Those people who warm up the car to operating temp and then drive aggressively don't realize that yes, the engine is toasty, BUT the transmission hasn't moved a bit and is still cold.

BTW...Happy New Year to y'all!
Owners Manual is to be read.
Section 5, page 8:
4. Warm-up
Allow the engine to idle for at least 30
seconds after starting. Drive at moderate
speed for a short distance first, especially in
cold weather.
And, yes I do.
