Philly Area Z/G Meet - 1/28 Ripken Stadium (MD)
Yesterday I ran my first autocross at the Ripken Stadium and was the only Z on the course. Very first lap I took it slow but still made mistakes. I missed two gates on my first lap. Second lap an “Instructor” drove with me. He said he’s been driving autocrosses for about eight years so I let him ride and he gave me some good tips. Almost all of them I knew but I wasn’t applying to my driving. Third lap I turned the VDC off to see what I could do and almost spun out twice. Forth lap I dropped my time three seconds so I did improve. Since it was my first time driving at Ripken Stadium and autocrossing, I was satisfied with it.
Too bad no one planned to attend cuz the temperature was up to about 55 degs yesterday. There were about five Lotus’ out there, a few M3s, a muscular sounding Camaro and Mustang, Austin Minis, and Miatas. Two guys I met drove as well. One had a Sunfire and the other drove an MR2. A lot of others but I can’t remember. The lot was so full that late registrations were not allowed. I met a couple of other people out there as well.
Next time I drive a track though I will have a dedicated set of tires.
