Default License plate requirements...

Just picked up my 2007 350z Enthusiast...had to fight with the dealership not to drill the front license plate into the bumper...finally got my way..

Its sitting in my front windshield i haven't had any problems yet with police but what are the laws and regulations about this? How does everyone else go with the front license plate..especially with a bodykit...

thanks for any input

back when i had my WRX i had my license plate in my window. One day i passed a cop driving the opposite way, he stopped, turned around, eventually caught up with me and gave me a ticket for "Unclear display of front plate". And there was absolutely no other reason for him to pull me over besides that, i was in sluggish traffic on a back road not doing anything wrong.

Check with your local forum and/or google your states regulation regarding front plates. Each state is different.

Edit: Tx technically requires a front plate but many cars including myself dont have one. Been pull over many times and no cop has brought it up once. There's a debate here on getting rid of it.

It's required in WA. unless you get a waiver from DMV. Only newer car to get it was the DeLorean. But, my Dealer does not put them on new Zs ever. They just hand you a screw-in bracket. I use the Stillen plate bracket. My buddy bought his Z without a front plate, doesn't have one, and has been pulled over twice for other things but not cited for the plate yet. You usually get 1 warning here first, but no guarantees.

Jersey requires it. Already got pulled over for it once by a state trooper, but I came up with a good story so he let me go and just told me to get one on. Since I got my bumper replaced, I made sure they didn't drill the holes for the plate. Still don't have it on.

Truthfully, don't see why it's necessary.

Your dealer fought w/ you? I told mine to not do it and there were no questions asked.

So how does the stillen bracket actually work?
On my old car i had an aftermarket bumper put on,THAT exact day i picked it up i got pulled over for not having a front license plate on the car..

Id like to have something that just snaps on so i can take it off whenever i want

The Stillen bracket mounts onto where the tow-hook goes in the bumper support. When you need to you remove it, all you have to do is just unscrew the entire assembly. Most people here probably have the Zee-Bracket since its about half the price.

Word to the wise if you get into an accident your plate becomes a projectile. As soon as I read about a guy getting his neck sliced open and dying from his license plate I took mine off the dash immediately.

in jersey, your more likely to get away with it by not showing the front plate anywhere at all. putting it in the front window attracts attention as it did for me when i got a ticket for it. If its not shown at all, most of the time they wont even notice.

It depends how far the bumper protrudes from the frame of the car. Stillen has two models, one for stock bumper cover and a slightly longer one made for their Stillen front.
