As someone said above; you can pick up a beater for the cost of a set of good snows. Even if the car is okay in the snow why deal with the anxiety that you may crack it up? I picked up a 98 Suburban this year for $1500, had a 97 Deville last for 500 and a VW Quatum before that... The salt up here is horrible - even if you wash your car it's still cakes the underside and corrodes everything. Plus you've got another car if you want to start modding

I don't think hes looking for fun as much as he is safety. Doing donuts in the snow won't get you to where you need to go.

This is my first winter with the Z - I've been on travel for work since late September so I haven't been able to pick up a beater.

TBH it seems like for the price of getting decent snows, mounting, unmounting in the spring, and the increased maintenance I could just get a beater and pay for storage for the Z (I live in an apt. with no covered parking). I put her away in a self storage unit when I left in Sept. and with what I'm hearing about all the ice up there I'm glad I did.

If anyone has somethin for sale or knows someone who does in the MA/CT/RI area let me know, I've got 1500$ for a winter ride! I suppose its craigslist time...

Anyway, does anyone drive their Z through the winter with snow tires? I will be using the 18 inch stockies, but i was unsure if its even worth it of if i should just go buy another SUV. I'm not expecting anything great, but just wondering how snow tires perform with these winter storms.

I searched a couple threads about snow tires on Z's, but i wanted some New Englands peoples' expirences, (i live in waterbury, CT).

Let me know,
Thanks,
I've had my Z since May '06 and it has made it through every single winter we have had since -- I live in Hamden, right on the Bethany line FYI. Blizzak WS-50 (I have 17" 225s all around) and you are golden. I called out of work once, left early once and stayed at my friends house once because it was sheer ice. But every other time -- Z made it and survived. Just go slow.

I have been the owner of a o3' Z for about a month and I had my first scare with her this weekend. I live in NYC so when I go home I really like to let loose. Ripping down a windy road going about 70 I hit a small piece of ice did a 180 and fishtailed for about 30 ft. How I didn't crash is beyond me, thank god there wasn't any other cars on the road. I know what your saying that I was reckless, but it was there was no snow or visible ice just cold conditions. It was amazing how this car that was always forgiving with traction and handling simply lost control. Needless to say this was a serious wake up call and be careful out there this winter!

Hahahahahaah, I just drove my Z to work. What the hell!? That thing has zero traction on stock tires. Fishtailed a couple of times.

Now i gotta decide whether I want to get another car or get snow tires.

I drive mine all year long, since I only have a 1 mile commute. LOL I just throw my winter setup on and call it a day. I do, however, raise it up back to stock height so I can get a car wash every once in a while.

I'm currently in my 3rd winter with the Z. It's my only car so I don't really have a choice. I have a set of Blizzak LM-22's (225/50/17 front, 235/17/50 rear) and so far it gets me where I need to go. I really don't like having to drive it in the winter because the paint takes a beating, and I'm sure everything's getting rusty underneath. But I figure for the money I save by not having a second car I can get the Z repainted some day if I ever think it's worth it. Plus rear wheel drive in the snow is pretty fun if you know what you're doing!

its snowing here in mass, i had my 03 350z for 2 winter already and made it through with M3 snow tires... but with condition like a foot i dont know if im going to make it home i prepared myself by adding more wieghts to the rear, hopefully get more traction and wont have any problem getting stuck in these condition.
