Default Extra insurance for modifications

Anyone take out extra insurance for their modifications?

If so how much was it and did it raise your premium a lot?

I am with geico and they told me to give them a list and the price of everything. I know not to list the turbo, as I would probably get dropped from the insurance policy if I do so. Would it be bad to list my exhaust?

Also anyone know the price of the 2007 Bi-xenons, 2007 LED tails and 2006 OEM Burnt Orange heated leather seats with side airbags?

TIA

i did on my last car (acura rsx). I had a $5-6k system in there and the cost went up like $150 or something. It was worth it. My civic was stolen back in 2003 and i had put in like $12k of work and the insurance company didn't give me ***** for it.

I have StateFarm and they just make you provide reciepts for the stuff...if you don't have a reciept then they give you "fair market" value for the items aka you get screwed!

I have ALLSTATE and I just needed the reciept to get it covered for custom body/paint repairs. Took me a long time though.

Most companies cover aftermarket body parts/wheels.

It's the engine they try to stay away from.

I have geico as well, do i need to provide them receipts or just a list and what each part is worth? Is it a different type of policy or is it under your actual auto policy?

they have been always asking if you have any customizations onto your vehicle and they'll ask to fax over receipts and so forth.

i used to have nationwide insurance and i just kept receipts and when someone hit me back in 2000 they gave me only 40% of the aftermarket costs back... but my insurance never paid a dime it was the other party's insurance who hit me and i was 100% not at fault. sucks but thats why it doesn't pay sometimes to drive a modded car

with state farm do you have to notify them when you get a new mod. or its just if you get into a accident when you report it you tell them you have the reciepts and then go on with there instrutions??

It varies by company, but with Allstate, you add a $$ value....ie...5k-10k, up to 25k in mod coverage. It can be added to both comp and collision or one or the other.
The premium will also vary depending upon your rate level on the policy.
Once the mod coverage goes on, if there is a loss, photos of the car would be helpfull.

My agent just told me to keep all reciepts..but I call her everytime i get a new mod just so she knows about it (also note the date and time of call). The will also need pics to prove you had the mods in case of theft or accident. My headunit was stolen out of my old car...I paid over a ton for it and only got 200 back from insurance because I had no reciepts or documentation of the mod...sooo its good to document things.
