Just happened like 30 mins ago. Supposedly a flock of birds is the first suspect.
Sucks cuz the hudson has a really strong current. Lets see if they can get people out.
Edit: Everyone survived, thats good news.

Yah birds... its not uncommon. Bird strikes are a BIG deal. If a pilot reports a bird strike on takeoff, even if its not a factor they still have to call the tower and do this whole report.

Our office saw the plane going down. I didn't catch it but, co workers said that the pilot made an amazingly soft landing in the water. Even more so that both engines were out. Damn good job for gliding I say.
Our company is a subcontractor that makes the ECU's for GE engines. The bird ingestion tests show how even a few birds can disable an engine. As for a whole flock, now that's...
That's crazy. The entire crew should be commended for getting everyone off that plance before it filled with water. I was reading today that standard protocol for a "bird strike", assuming it does not disable the airplane, is for the pilots to immediately loop around and land at the airport so that the engine(s) can be checked out. There is a video on youtube of some British airliner whose right engine ingests some bird right before the plane lifts off, and the engine is puffing flame+smoke during the initial ascent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KhZwsYtNDE
