I have no idea of whom or where I can get my car tuned should I make upgrades. Please share your information.

 

I'm interested in the same info as eventually I plan to get an APS TT or JWT TT.

I haven't used them myself, but I've read good things about Torque Freaks http://www.torquefreaks.com/intro.html which is based in Portland, Intec Racing http://www.intecracing.com/ which is based in Kent, WA, and Carb Connection http://www.carbconn.com/ which is in Kirkland.

i wouldn't go to carb conn. from my experience they do not know what they are doing.

 

Can you provide more details of your experience? Unfortunately, it looks like Carb Conn is the only local Unichip tuner (if that's important to you).

 

I use CarbConn all the time for my Z's and racecars. They are some of the top car tuners in the NW. I highly recommend them. BTW, they are the ones that build most of the FI BMW's. They are also in the processes of building a TT 700hp G35 including all of the internals.

Not sure what MADKIMCHI probelm is with CarbConn but I would not take the word of a person that registers the same day and the only post is negitive with no details

 

i do not own 350z i am interested in getting 350z and i was just browsing around.

well i have 02 rsx type s with greddy turbo. went there to get it all tuned. after got it done and on my way home my car was knocking. went back next day and still can't figure that **** out. well may be nissans are different since i am using hondata kpro ecu unit. i went there because they are authorized hondata dealer and didn't seem like they knew how to work with hondata ecus.

it's like first impression. my first experience was horrible so i will not go back to that shop. i would rather go to intec.

 

Any updates on these shops performance lately? Any new tuners/shops I should know of? Im about to take my car to carbconn to install my APS Twins, but im curious.

 

I don't know where in Washington you are. If on the Peninsula you might call Advantage Nissan in Bremerton. People have brought their cars up from Oregon to have their Z engines rebuilt, supercharged and TT done there. They can do a lot of stuff without voiding the Nissan Warranty.

I've heard no complaints except one and that had to do with a sale of a car...nothing with the service department. Several friends and myself have bought and had cars worked on there with no complaints.

 

Hmm im in Lynnwood north of seattle... im not covered under warranty anymore so it doesnt really matter.. wonder how much they charge an hour. Do they tune?

Yes they tune. I don't know the hour rate. Just call them and ask. I haven't detected any BS. I know they have built engines in cars that were almost new. You really need to talk to the manager, Brad Bakken.

DO specializes in Hachis. They just started doing some S13 motor swaps. They are currently trying to expand into the Z/G market, since this is where the money is. No VQ experience at this moment. They're good guys though, so I would definitely consider going there for parts/installs. They just go a Dynojet in, so if locals call for another Dyno Day this summer, I might set it up here instead. Oh, and they just announced that they will be campaigning their S13 coupe for the rest of the Formula D season.

UP Garage is pretty much a 240SX shop. I think they specialize in motor swaps like the RB, SR, etc... I don't know much about them, but I know I wouldn't take my VQ there.

WorldOne is a Subie shop. They can do basic stuff that any shop could do (suspension, clutch, brakes, etc..). They're sponsors on here, but they just sell you parts. Prices were never as good as online, anyways, so I've never bought anything from them. They really have no FI VQ experience and, frankly, I don't think too much of that shop at all...

Intec is a shop that I've always had a distaste for, b/c of the snobby/elitist attitudes I've seen over there years ago. Several of my buddies are friends with people there, and they love them, though...

 

Down where I live is a small place called horsepower connection that is starting to make a good name of themselves. They do have lots of experience with turbo charged beast upwards of 1000hp but sadly no VQ exp...But with his long time experience with boosted cars i would think he be the best bet for tuning our cars. Motors are motors and tuning is tuning. If you are good at it, it doesnt matter if you have experiance tuning a VQ before, or whatever. Good shops are good shops and bad shops are bad shops. Carb Connection. Intec Racing. Those are places I would never take anything, period. Some times they turn out a good car and some times they blow up customer's cars. If you have the knowledge of how to build motors, then you can do it. Whether it's a 17 liter turbodiesel or a 1.6L Bseries Honda. I take lots of measurements, go slowly, and am **** about how clean parts are.

Horsepower Connection. That's a place I would take a car. They have lots of experiance with lots of different cars from old muscle cars to brand new technology. Unlike a lot of shops that 'tune' cars they actually have a load-brake dyno and their employees have a TON of knowledge. I used their Dyno Dynamics dyno to tune my friends R32 GT-R with a power FC.

Would highly reccomend Horsepower Connection.

 

What you say is true, and I agree, partially. A good mechanic, tuner, shop, etc...is universal. However, sometimes you really want someone with specialized knowledge. It saves alot of time, costs, and further potential problems when you have issues pop up. Diagnosis is usually the most time-consuming and frustrating. Unfortunately there really aren't any shops in the NW with much VQ experience. I'm sure there will be, in the near future, but that means some people will be taking more of a risk than others further down the road. Specific knowledge/experience is especially important when tuning. While a good tuner with a good understanding of theory is important, they also need experience with the specific EMU that you are using.
