I didn't think this NW board would be as active as it is. I joined this board in May and didn't post until July. Wish I had checked in earlier.

I've been meaning to ask you; What happened to your 3rd gear?

Um. Well, it grinds going into 3rd gear now. Sometimes even when double clutching. Quick shifts never work, slow ones do sometimes. It's only 3rd that's affected. It had been feeling a bit stiff and notchy lately, and I had some gear whine, but I really didn't think much about it. Parts are all backordered, and they're trying to get the last couple of parts in for the rebuild. It's possible that once they have it, it'll need even more parts and then I'll have a transportation problem. Technically, the car is driveable if you do 1-2-4 shifts.

Where are you taking it? Wouldn't they give you a loaner for warranty work? Or is it out of warranty already...

Loaners are available. I simply don't want to leave the car at the dealership for 1, 2, however many weeks it takes them to get the parts. I took the car in a week ago today to Auburn Nissan -- which is where I bought the car. I'm still missing a spring and a needle bearing, whatever those parts are for.

I'm planning on coming. Will try to meet the caravan ~ 8am (sounds early!) but I'm sure I can make the visitor center by 10am. Look forward to meeting new Z people and renewing old friendships as well.

Screw it. I'm going with or without 3rd gear. What time is the estimate for making it back to the Seattle area?

Once we make it JRO (probably by lunch time) it's anyone's call at that point. If we make it to JRO by 1PM and you turn right around, you can make it back to Seattle around 4PM. My guess is that once we're at JRO (in the middle of extinct landscape) it's worth the time to see check out the volcano since it's the closest point by car where you can look into the caldera. If you're into nature stuff, there is the Observatory itself; a huge concrete building (looks like a military fortress or something, completely out of place in the landscape) that has is displays, historyoca stuff and a large theater that shows a short film on the recent history of the mountain (a couple of bucks for the movie), the whole thing is pretty new.

Actually if you're into hiking a lot of the trails that go toward the volcano start from there. But it's like an few miles hike to the caldera from JRO. But I think the whole point is to get together to put some faces to these on-line names and for the drive up to JRO.

FYI: no shade. All the trees are gone 'cept for couple of saplings. If it's sunny, be prepared.

All sorts of good news -- the car went in for service this evening, and unless the cogs themselves are damaged, I should have it back tomorrow evening with a new flywheel and clutch!

Oh man, I hope you can make it. It wouldn't be a party w/ out you.

(Please note: no gaurantees of instantaneous party atmosphere developing.)

But that aside, I'm sure a couple of the 350Z guys and myself included would really like to see you make it. Hope all goes well w/ the tranny issues.

Or maybe my battlewagon, the Sienna!
