Default Canlis Restaurant

My wife and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary this weekend. We went to Canlis Restaurant. First time going there and I only heard about this place on G35Driver from another member. OMG the food was so fricken good! I had a Crab Cake (appetizer), the Wagyu Steak (Kobe beef) with twice baked potato, & a Chocolate Lava Cake for desert. The atmosphere is very nice and the service was excellent. The meat was just about the best beef I've had...

Anyways, for anyone who hasn't been or is going to celebrate a special occasion, I'd recommend Canlis. Its a little spendy, but nothing too major.

I think I want to take our company there for dinner after our next big project's groundbreaking.... yummmmm

Canlis is a great place to eat. My grandfather used to take me to take me all the time when I was younger. Now I seem to go about once a year for some sort of special occasion.

if you like food and have $$$$ to spend, try the Herb Farm:

http://www.theherbfarm.com/

it's the best place I've ever eaten by far, but also costs the most too. (I took my wife out there last yr after I had worked about 4 weeks straight...)

I had Thanksgiving diner @ The Herbfarm. One of the finest the world has to offer. I am a fine dining pig.
Sunday brunch @ The Palace in SF is the most unforgettable.

Canlis is DEFINITELY the hookup. I have a thing for fine dining, so any more recommendations would be great. I know all the hot spots in the D (where I moved from in September) by my experience here is still rather limited.

canlis is great and a great place to eat but I prefer the Herbfarm a bit more. The multi course meal and setting of the Herbfarm is just amazing. Its personal preference but you can choose.

I spent about 350 at Canlis and about 540 at Herbfarm just to give you figures

Yeah its almost double @ the Herbfarm. I spent only $260 @ Canlis (didn't buy wine, not a wine drinker....) I believe my brother spent around 550ish at the Herbfarm too. I definately want to check that place out as well.

some details on herbfarm:
-it's a set menu and caters to what ever the season is
-it's a set price and requires a $100 deposit per seat (IIRC)
-everyone gets there at the same time, and they give you a quick tour of the garden, then everyone sits down and everyone gets the same course at the same time.
-they have a separate wine for each course (you can choose to have juice instead)
-their wine person and chef come out before the meal and explain everything.

all in all, it was really nice...food is superb, service is wonderful, and they actually teach you about what you're enjoying!

Those would be acceptable too, and I'm surely down with that. Hopefully there will be a couple guys that wanna do it up real big, though.

I might be down if there are more people going to somewhere fancier than Claim Jumper or Cheesecake Factory but probably not until sometime mid-summer.

350/550 per person? Or is for a party of two? I would spend 350 for two for some special occasion but over 500?.......... I need to start making mo money....... My ghetto *** can't afford that yet... But I do want to try it. Will definitly try Canlis.

For some of us cheap po peops, I suggest Jak's. I'm sure many of you have been there before, but those of you who never been there before, their steaks and pork chops are mighty good! Jak's size Fillet is like 15 oz for 39 bucks (used be cheaper)! Love steaks but I have to order their honey glazed double cut pork chop once in a while. Best chop I've ever had. It's under 100 bucks for two, and they have good service too... No reservations and might have to wait in line on weekend nights..
