no, i was saying that 19lbs for 18x9 is pretty light.

do you know what they will look like on my skyline? and i want to see what the clearance will be on the front fender liner. i am just looking for another set of wheels that are matte or black~ish color. for winter or track days. i would like to run 18x10`s but if the 9.5`s look good and clear, might have to jump on em...

nope. The next set of AutoX rims I get will most likely force me to roll my fenders...I want to push the tires out a bit more and run something around 295 on all 4 corners

 

I asked because your wheels look like they stick "in" your fenderwells more. Maybe because you're running smaller tires than me front/rear?

I have 275's front and 285's read and they kinda stick "out" both front and rear. I really like the look.

Also you want to run 295's on all corners, I wanna ask why. Being NA still do you have trouble getting traction? Would would running such huge tires on ALL corners do?

I've heard that running the same tires on our cars (Z33) gets rid of the understeer. I'd think you only need to run 275's or something?

 

Its not all about straight line traction kid, go do some more reading in the suspension section, then come back so you sound somewhat educated on the subject

 

Redlude is right...and I'm planning on something like a 295 for AutoX R-comps, not street tires. In autoX, most of the time the Z has plenty of power, just not enough grip. The one downside to such a wide tire is getting it up to operating Temps...so for super cold/wet days, I'll have a 2nd set of wet R-comp wheels, thus my need for a 2nd set. Make sense?

Here's what I'm planning to have in the end:
-1 street set; normal driving + some AutoX practices
-1 Dry weather autoX set (around 295's)
-1 Wet weather autoX set (bewteen 255-275...not sure yet)
-1 Track set, my old Toyo RA-1s
-2 wheels w/ DOT drag racing tires (probably not, but I have 2 extra wheels, so it's tempting )

 

^ Congratuations! You will officially surpassed me on sets of tires. At one point I had 4.5 sets of wheels & tires for the Z (OEM, street/track, autoX R-comps for competition, autoX R-comps for practice, extra set of street tires). But 5 sets... man that's commitment! You're gonna need to dedicate a set a whole bay of your garage for this inventory.

Oh man 295 tires on wide wheels... That must be like 13" wide, you'll have one stack on the floor 52" tall!

why 10.5" wide? A 9" wide wheel will fit 295's without fuss, and will weigh less. the only problem I can see is that the tire may buldge too much on the corners and cause the contact patch area to be reduced...either way, I'm not set on the exact dimension of rim or tire - I'm going to roll my fenders first and figure out how far I can push the tires out. (When I was at the autoX Nationals this year, lots of the STI/Evo's where running super stiff suspension with thier wheels sticking out of thier fenders by more than 1" ...looked really weird for street, but those guys were blazing fast.


IIRC it's around 2.5". But the wheels will work with just about any drop (including OE height) b/c as you compress the suspension, the wheel gets more negative camber and the wheel 'tucks' in.

 

...I'm already getting creative in where I store the tires...under the work bench, stacked 6 high in a corner...

After I got my R-comp Hankooks...I had them stacked in the living room - everyday I'd walk into my house and just smile at them and think FTW! (After 2 days, the wife wasn't too happy about it)

Thats exactly why I recommend a 10.5" wheel, while the 295 will physically fit on a 9" wheel, it is significantly wider and will lead to bulge and possible sidewall rollover as you mentioned. A 295 is a perfect fit for a 10.5" width. Even my 285 on a 9.5" bulges, a 295 on an even narrower wheel is going to bulge alot isn't it?

 

that's the question that I'll be finding the answer to during the winter...I've got time since I probably won't know about Hankook's spronsorship until early next year, and that will dictate what size tires are available to me.

nope. I have my 17X8.5" enkei's that I've been using this year...I'll probably mount the wet R-comps on those.

 

^ sounds like you're gonna find out where the point of diminishing returns in performance w/ tire size. Looking forward to seeing the result.
