Default speeding

so friday night i was on my way up to Vancouver-BC, carving up the mountain pass near Samish Lake... on the left lane, passing this 18-wheeler... camping around the corner was a cop... once i passed the truck the cop was already on the road and following me... i was barely above speed limit at that time... he kept following me for another 15sec (seemed like eternity), waiting for me to trip over 65... obvisously i knew i was trouble either way.. guess he wanted to make me suffer by prolonging it... i was about to pull over even before he switched on his lights... then he finally turned them on and i pulled over... he told me i was doing 90 in a 60 zone, and after i passed the truck, i was still doing 80... that was when he was pacing me... but i seriously dont think i would be doing 20 over limit when theres a cop right on my ***...

so he gave me a nice $205 fine courtesy of Whatcom County. that's my second one this calendar year...

the irony is there was this Mustang GT riding on my *** 5 minutes before this all happend... i wanted to speed up to get out of the way... instead i hung out on the left lane for a little longer than i should have... also, i know the whole I-5 corridor very well where the speed traps are... but still, it only took a moment of carelessness to get nailed...

i dont plan on protesting the ticket cuz i realy was going over the speed limit by a fair amount, but definitely 20mph over is not endangering anyone's lives when there's minimal traffic on an open mountain pass... btw the sun was setting and there was no precipitation...

so here are my choices:

1) drive like a granny in my Z
2) ValentineOne
3) Passport 8500

Get a traffic lawyer to take care of this ticket for you. One ticket is forgivable w/ your insurance co. (in most cases); they won't over look two. As long as you didn't admit to speeding (and weren't caught breaking any sound barriers), they will most likely be able to get the ticket dropped.

I like your option 2. Cuz you'd never be able to drive your Z like a granny for too long. It's too painful to drive this car at the speed limit.

You should have told him the truck driver was spitting out the window and you were afraid of getting AIDS.
Bummer though.

when I first moved to Seattle last yr, I stopped speeding b/c I saw so many cops...but I've noticed I've slowly gone back to my 'normal' speeds in the Z - 75mph feels to be a sweet spot in 6th gear for the engine ...maybe I should get a V1??

I've had a passport for 4 years now, and it's saved me from LOTS of tickets in that time.

Within 2 weeks of getting my '03 Z I got a speeding ticket. That night I ordered a V1 and I've never received a speeding ticket since.

It's been the best single item that I bought for my car by far. I even take it w/ me when I go on vacation. The bad part is that whenever I drive a car w/o my V1 I feel naked.....and not in the fun way either.

im with the above post.... i dont have a v1 but i bought the beltronics RX65 pro and that thing is one of the best purchases i have made.... the $300 was well spent... I might not have the z but my 325 at close to 100mph(following traffic) feels like 60 and i have never gotten pulled over... knock on wood... if you like to speed get a radar detector and dont cheap out on one...

I can relate... I got something like 4 tickets in 2004. Not good times. Each ticket was just over 200. My insurance is just now starting to get back to the being reasonable. Good luck!

Man that sux! It seems like whenever you get a speeding ticket, it's when you really weren't racing or driving really really fast. It's always when you just happen to be cruising along above the speed limit.

So what is the best radar detector out there? Do they actually detect the laser radar guns?

Make sure to get a traffic attourney in that area where you got the ticket. It may take a little more work than finding one local. It'll be cheaper since you don't have to pay the travel expense of the lawyer and also those attourneys tend to know the judges of the city/county and have a better chance of influencing them.

The area around Lake Samish is a very notorious speed trap, as well as the last three corners coming into Bham. The cops hide pretty much in plain sight, and by the time you see them, you're hosed. Sorry to hear they got you.

BTW, curious about your statement of "courtesy of Whatcom County." Was it a county sheriff's deputy who got you, or was it the WSP? I've never seen the county cops patrolling I-5. WSP of course, and the BPD within city limits, but never the county. If that was indeed the case, it's just one more thing to worry about.

I've heard Jeannie Mucklestone is pretty good for a traffic lawyer. But you'll likely pay a *lot* to make this go away. Good luck.

1) drive like a granny in my Z .... or an adult.

I've got a V1 in both my Nissans for that occasional indiscretion when I drive like a kid. If you drive fast all the time you'll soon become marked as easy pickings and be a constant source of income for the local jurisdictions. Being an assigned risk to your insurance company will get old really fast.

Be careful out there some mistakes cost more than others.

that's exactly what happens... its usually when you don't intend to 'really' speed and get caught off guard... i wasnt even thinking i was going fast, just passing a truck, going downhillls, on a windy road...

i think it was WSP... i can't remember... the minute he finished writing the ticket, he got into his cruiser, backed up, and hid behind the shoulder again... took only 60 seconds before a Lexus fell for the same trap... caught him about a mile down the road...

Drive in the pack + radar detector.

Too many cops in these parts.
