I've heard horror stories w/ Evo mechanical issues and dealerships/Mits not providing warranty work (or at least fighting it)...and if they find out that you "race" it, your warranty gets voided.

^ good point

but is it better with subi's? (don't know if it is, just asking) if thats ur only reason for gettting an sti over an evo, then i'd really look into how subi warranties work before buying

+1 The Evo and other Mitsubishi models have their fair share of issues and seems like the Mitsu dealeships are more difficult to deal w/ than most. Then there's that 'No fun' clause in the warranty. Even if you autoX it just once, you void the warranty.

I think the reliability and better dealership support is what makes the STi the better choice over the Evo.

I really do like the STi/Evo cars, for their potential and 4 door practicality. Problem is, they're too cramped inside, I hate the spartan econobox interiors, and the exteriors are ugly too. Even with a wing delete...

I agree. To me, a modded Legacy would be a better choice but it's looks are too plain for some. Hell, I've even seen a nice lowered Legacy GT wagon. Looked good.

I thought about it long and hard. I have a couple friends who roll EVO9s and I was really on the edge of getting one. I test drove the MR and I beat the **** out of it and the fun factor wasn't there for me. I did however shift so hard/quick that I popped the differential LOL, its so loud!

They are easy to mod, thats a plus but they aren't easy to make pretty. The interiors are ugly to me. I went with the ZR because top down driving is much more fun to me.

You and your damn wagons! You would've had an audi wagon if audi on South Tacoma way wasn't afraid to provide service to two brown guys and a half black guy.

I know some people will probably have something to say but if you like the class of the A4 but like the performance of the sti seriously look into a Audi S4.

I love mine. and if you are looking to buy new, the newest S4 is supposed to have another twin turbo v6. Hell even the current model has decent hp and is a blast to drive. for me it has been the best of both worlds. my S4 has loads of power and the class to go with it.

Whatever you do good luck. I was able to keep my Z and the S4 and I don't honestly know which one I would choose if I had to.

I'd go with a 335i sedan before I touched a S4. For obvious reasons. The new ones look very promising however, but when are they expected to arrive?

I don't know. I have a B5 and luckily it has been extremely reliable. And it is so mod friendly it scares me some times. I think the new S4 will be here in early 09 but don't quote me on that. if it is anywhere near the potential of my B5 I will be picking one up as soon as I can.

I probably wouldn't spend much over $34K for the next car...so the S4 or 335i are outta my tentative price range.

*If I went w/ the A4 (which my wife loves), then I'd probably get a cheaper dedicated track vehicle...miata, civic, go-kart,...

Interesting.....

The A4 would be used to keep Mrs. First350 happy and then you can go for something like a Miata and build a dedicated track vehicle? In GRM mag a killer Miata can be purchased and built for less than what it would cost for boosting a Z. Seems like short of an Exige and/or SRT-10 Viper a worked Miata (Uber-Miata) tends to be the next fastest car in WWSCC (going off of last years stats).

I haven't looked into the Spec Miata series, but is that what you're thinking of for your wheel-to-wheel flavor?

As for the S4 option..... that would be sweet if you could swing the cost.

Oh! You know what you should REALLY do.... just get a GT-R! Done!

the evos 4g63 is incredibly strong.. sti is not as much ^_^

As far as potential, the STI/EVO is incredibly cheap to get mid 300 or even 400+ (with the evo), but I think for power levels >5-600 the vq motor actually will end up being easier/cheaper to do.

Anyways, my roomate has a 2004 STI (java black) with 60k miles, i think he wants to sell it. Its stock and he doesnt drive it like it should be driven :P (what a noob). Hes upside down in a loan on it, i think he owes 23k. If your interested let me know. Its worth maybe 21?
