"In the roiling auto industry, partnering with “the enemy” seems to be the way to increase productivity and reduce costs while garnering more profit.
The latest move along those lines has Nissan Motor Co. building small cars for Chrysler LLC to sell, and conversely, Chrysler will make pickups for Nissan under a deal unveiled by both companies. This deal is part of a growing relationship between Chrysler and Nissan as they attempt to adapt to the U.S. market.
Both automobiles will sell in North America, and the new Chrysler subcompact will hit the market in Europe and other regions starting in 2010.
Nissan, Japan’s third largest automaker, will make the new Chrysler small car at its Oppama plant in Japan. Chrysler will make the pickup truck at its plant in Saltillo, Mexico, and it will go on sale in 2011, the companies said.
The Nissan Titan, Nissan’s current full-size pickup, will remain on the market until the new pickup goes on sale, said Dominique Thormann, senior vice president for administration and finance at Nissan North America. The Canton, Miss., plant that makes the Titan will start producing commercial vehicles for Nissan and no jobs will be lost, Thormann said.
To clear room to build the Nissan pickup in Saltillo, Chrysler will shift production of its own pickup trucks from Mexico to truck plants in St. Louis and Warren, Mich., Chrysler President and Vice Chairman Tom LaSorda said.
“Forging the right tactical partnerships is critical to the long-term success of Chrysler,” LaSorda said.
Thormann and LaSorda said the deal is for just the two vehicles, and there are no ongoing merger discussions. Thormann said, however, both companies would continue to consider product-sharing opportunities."
Perhaps a Chrysler 350Z is in the future.... I hope not !!!

I look at it this way. Americans can't make good reliable and descent looking vehicles. There only way to save their own AZZ, is by partnering with an Asian company. The only cars that I would even think about buying that is American, would be the Saleen S7, Dodge Viper or the Vette or any classic cars. Other then that, it's all junk.
BUGHPP!.... I think I just threwup a little in my mouth.
Didn't Daimler-Benz drop Chrysler since they were just a complete drain on them? I dunno if partnering w/ Chrysler is any better.

.i have no interest in talking about "we're better" but i enjoy discussing interesting partnerships.
btw, the daimler partnership downfall was financial not design oriented. Chrysler tried to sell that POS crossfire which was just a clusterfck.
some good reading here
