Default Performance / Dyno Tune (Seattle & Tacoma)

Has anyone had their Z dyno tuned in the Seattle / Tacoma area? Let me know where, how much, and how you felt about their workmanship. Phone number would be great too!!

we did a dyno day at drift office in the tacoma area (i think). Pretty good guys. Charged us 55 a person I think. I think we will be needing another dyno day coming up though. I know a lot of people have done more things to their cars lately. For actual tuning, it depends on what EMS you are running. Trent at Worldone performance is really good at the UTEC for the Z's, and whatever the subies and evo's run. He does street tunes. Tuned both mine and Jinings cars.

I'm looking for tuning and dyno results. Getting ready to install an SSV to compliment the exhaust, headers, and intake but she already smells like the A/F is out of balance....eventually want a Vortech too. Getting poor search results for shops and hoped members have had some local experience.

Recommendations?

well, I don't know about drift office, last time they had to bring someone in to tune a car...and I know nothing about 8velocity. I do however know about worldone and I like my tune, and so does jining. IMO street tune>dyno tune.

WorldOne is having their BBQ event on the 29th so I'll definitely have to check them out. Another friend recommended IntecRacing (also in Kent) but he drives a charged Focus. Apparently they're having a "dyno special".....is $160/hr reasonable for a dyno tune? They claim to have a 350/G35 tuning program "that finally works".

I would talk to worldone first...they have proven themselves with multiple Z's so far in both tuning and install. They have done multiple TT Z's (greddy and APS) a turbonetics single turbo install, vortech and stillen superchargers, and tuning for all. So far none of the motors have blown, so I would say that they have done a good job. Their tuner is incredibly smart, and more than capable of tuning these cars. He is a biochemist for his real job, and tunes cars on teh side just because he loves it. Their installer is also really great, worked in the Honda field for years, and has a CRX that I think ran 9's at pacific raceways. He is very thurough.

I'm going to go talk to WorldOne then, it sounds like you guys are happy with them. Is superchargers4less the best place to buy a Vortech?

probably not. Check their pricing, call some vendors on this forum, then call worldone and see if they will match their pricing (or beat). I know they can get that set-up as well.

I'm checking around every chance I get!! Do you need any special hardware that allowed WorldOne to tune your Z or did they flash the ECU?

I am going to have a utec and map selector switch for sale here soon. the only thing else it would need for FI is a MAP sensor.

I was hoping I could just run the Vortech and not spend another $750 to $1000. Doesn't the Cobb Accessport accomplish both tasks for about the same or less money? UTECs are a piggyback device while the Accessport actually programs the ECU along with other functionality. Anyone using an Accessport or are the UTECs a better way to go?

the only con i see in teh cobb accessport is that its still unproven. being a new product, not many have used it.

you should check out the tuning and forced induction forum, you'd get much more input from alot more people with alot of experience there.

If you're worried about $1000, then FI is not for you. Seriously. You need to be prepared for all kinds of miscellaneous expenses down the road.

You'll be fine with the stock SS box that comes with the Vortech if you're just running the full kit with the 3.33.

+1
axles if you race ($1500)
good clutch and flywheel to hold the power ($600-3k)
cooling mods like radiator, oil cooler, pathfinder mod, thermostat, etc. ($900-2k)
probably want better gearing (free-500)
etc

Vortech also told me their FMU and Engine unit alone would work until they learned that I had headers/cat deletes/exhaust and a SSV.....then they said I would be running to lean and that I might damage my engine. Funny thing is she actually smells like she's running rich!! That's why I've been looking for a tune. Then WorldOne is telling me they can't tune the car without a Utec, AccesPort, or similar external device....another $1000

While money is somewhat important, I am mostly trying to avoid buying unneccessary stuff that isn't going to produce squat on the street. I am, however, prepared to buy the Vortech but just hope that once it's dialed in I can forget about it. I'm not going to tune for street and track days since the car is a "daily driver" and I don't feel I need a fully programmable, switchable device to map on the fly. Can't I get the car setup and just drive?

Hope that makes sense.
