Default ZCCW Peninsula Z car run- Sept. 26th

Z Car of Washington (ZCCW.org) is putting on the 2009 Olympic Peninsula Z car run this next Saturday. Details for this drive:

These instructions have been posted to the Activities and Sept. Newsletter sections on our Website also...We hope to have a good turnout of Z cars for this one!

Ok, so here’s the “Around the Olympic Peninsula Drive” deal….

You can expect to drive about 8 hours, from the time you leave your house until the time you return home, for a total of roughly 400 miles. Your mileage may vary! ;0)

Pack a jacket and lunch for Ruby Beach , Pack a camera for everything else!

Ø The plan is to leave the Kingston McDonalds parking lot at 9am , so try to be at the Edmonds Ferry dock to catch the 8am –ish boat.

Ø Zero out your odometer at McDonalds

Ø 3.4 miles turn R to West 104 to Port Gamble

Ø 8.2 miles turn R to Hood Canal Bridge

Ø 23.3 miles Stay to the R to Port Angeles

Ø 25.5 miles Welcome to Highway 101 North! (to Sequim and Port Angeles )

Ø 56.4 miles Pit Stop for gas and food at Safeway

Ø Zero out your odometer at Safeway

Ø 2.4 miles turn L to Lincoln Street /West Highway 101

Ø Ooooo, look…..It’s Lake Sutherland ! 16.2 miles

Ø Ooooo, look…..It’s Crescent Lake ! 19.0 miles

Ø 56.8 miles Gas and Pit Stop at Forks Shell Station (don’t stare at people wearing sunglasses, they are probably vampires) There is a Thriftway a mile down the road if it’s needed.

Ø Zero out your odometer at the Forks Shell Station

Ø Olympic National Park entrance 24.6 miles

Ø 26.2 miles turn R into Ruby Beach entrance (just after a 30mph round-ish curve)

Ø One hour Lunch Break at Ruby Beach depending on the weather…

Ø 33.0 miles Stop at beachside turnout for a back-in Photo Opportunity, provided someone else is not already doing that!

Ø Entering the Quinault Indian Reservation 37.0 miles

Ø 4X4 Z Car! Look out! 61.0 miles

Ø Ooooo, look….It’s Lake Quinault ! 63.0 miles

Ø 100-ish miles Welcome to Hoquiam!

Ø 101.4 miles turn L on Simpson Street to Aberdeen

Ø 102.6 miles Gas and Pit Stop at Shell Station on the right (McDonalds is across the street a half block away)

Ø Zero out your odometer at the Shell Station

Ø 2.0? miles turn L on to E. Heron Street / Highway 101 (very obvious)

Ø Stay L to take Highway 12 / Olympia

Ø 18.6 miles turn R to Keys Road (we’re going up to those big Satsop cooling towers for a photo op!)

Ø 21.9 miles L on to Lambert Road

Ø 22.3 miles R on to Tower Boulevard ! (Duh!)

Ø Find the groovy spot for picture taking at the Satsop Business Park !

Ø Head back down the “back way” to Highway 12 and Olympia (there is a Rest Stop on Highway 12 about three miles down the road from Satsop if somebody needs it, otherwise we’ll blast into Olympia and the I-5 North-South cutoff)

Approx. 25 miles from Satsop to Olympia

(watch your speed on this corridor, the police watch it like a hawk!)

Ø Dinner at Normas Restaurant 8.5 miles North of Olympia at Exit 114 on the right and the conclusion of the “Around the Olympic Peninsula Drive” ;0)

Those in Washington who want to really DRIVE their Z cars - rather than just sit and look at them - this is for YOU!
