damn that sucks. I bet having a front airbag would have been nice in that situation. I don't understand why people take out steering wheels like that.

lol... all the front airbag would have done in that situation is punch him in the face when he's already having a bad day

I'd really rather have the airbag punching me in the face rather then risking the steering wheel punching me in the face instead. But update us on what insurance says.

Were there any signs on the street warning you about the gravel? If not (or if they were obscured or not visible due to poor lighting) then you have a pretty good shot at making a claim against the jurisdiction where the gravel was laid (city, county, state, construction company). Call around to see whose project it was and ask to be put in touch with their risk management group or insurance claim adjuster. Take lots of photos and the sooner you get this done, the better your chances.

I was thinking the same. these kind of crews have all sorts of safety regulations they have to follow, if they caught wind there was an accident they may have already gone there and swept the gravel up, you need proof that it was on the road and was the cause of the accident.

if you care to pursue it any further that is .. it will end up paying out more then insurance will.

well my statement was based on the assumption that he was wearing a seatbelt. in low speed crashed like that, especially ones that the primary stopping force is from the side, you're not very likely to manage to slip past the seat belt or overcome the force of the active restraint on the seat belt to hit your face on the steering wheel

i agree, airbags are nicer to cuddle with than steering wheels, but in the event where there are no steering wheels involved in the mix an airbag is just an angry fat pale lady who wants to smother you in unwanted love. know what i mean?

I took of the stock wheel originallly when I ran the paddle shifters. While in some cases having a airbag would be nice I would have just ended up with a black eye in this one.

Entaille-
Oh I have pics for sure. Lots of people I have spoken to in Portland know about how crappy Columbia is with construction now. The place where I hit the steel poled mailbox said its not that 1st time thats happened to it recently.

when i was in my crash my car spun out counter-clockwise. as i was trying to counter steer and correct it, when i hit the guard rail the airbag deployed. it broke my left arm and pinky (<= lulz). after that i never put airbags in that car, and if it weren't for the ugly willow interior, i would have replaced my stock wheel in my g with an aftermarket one also.

Glad that was a near-miss and not something more serious. Still makes me cringe to see that though. Glad you're deciding to repair it...time for some new stuff, huh?

Sorry to see that Marble, but like you and others have said, it definitely could've been worse! Cars can be replaced, you can't. Glad you're ok.

On a side note, now's my chance to have the guys put on another Shakotan! Maybe with you out of the picture, I can win the damn thing! Haha

Default Update:

Figured I would post a bit of an update on the car situation. Lawyer is saying we are close to getting this squared away....

So I sent the car back to GTM for a mechanical and body quote. Came back with a pretty large price tag to get the car back to its former self, the frame was also badly bent. So with the frame, cost to fix and time involved to fix the car we decided to get cash out of the insurance company. We should get close to the amount Im seeking according to my last conversation with my lawyer.

Since Im not a fan of starting from square one swapping gear into another Z and Im not feeling building another supercar I have decided to take something that is already a supercar and do a build with that as a starting point. Soon I will be putting money down at Park Place and they will start the seach for my 911 turbo (996 model). Those cars are already very quick stock and after some reseach there are many, many options on making the car even better. I will keep everyone updated as I know more, even with a Porsche I would enjoy making some of the meets still=)

That's a nice upgrade. Porsche; there is no substitute. It was smart to lawyer up. Glad everything worked out for you.
