Default Heads-up re: emphasis patrols (i.e. fundraisers)

I have it from a reliable source that the Seattle Police Department, in their quest to go hard on victimless crimes while pretty much ignoring the hard stuff, have been instructed to actively ticket people for not having front plates. The municipal court is not letting you off for showing up and saying you mounted it anymore either.

I saw two cars in the International District get pulled over in a 10 minute time frame for driving without front plates by this old motorcycle cop with a gray mustache, mirror sunglasses and gestapo boots (sounds like a stereotype, I know.)

Another friend of mine, who has a beautiful M3, received 2 tickets in the last two weeks for not having a front plate. He ended up pulling out the drill and mounted the plate yesterday. I think he barfed in his mouth a little.

The tickets are $232, so my buddy's out almost $500.

Putting your plate on the dashboard doesn't get you off either. It has to be permanently affixed to the front of your car, at least 6 inches off the ground. I just use a $10 license plate frame from Autozone and some zipties, so there's no need to drill or spend buku bucks on those stupid mounts that screw into the towing socket.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

State fundraisers suck b**ls!

This seems like a bad time to start handing out tickets for this since the current law has an expired effective date (July 1, 2011).

Yeah, would be a nice loophole, except this is the new rule that now applies:

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.16A.200

RCW 46.16A.200(5)(a) Display. License plates must be:

(i) Attached conspicuously at the front and rear of each vehicle if two license plates have been issued;

My Z didn't come with a front plate when I purchased it. I've gone without it for almost two years.. I suppose I should order one.

was a gift from my girl for my bday. came right on time as i got pulled over twice and let go with warnings both times (last month) for having it on my dashboard.

or you can get the non-motorized one... flip out by hand when driving and push in when chillin... that one is like $30
