oregon roads in the middle of december
i'm going to be driving to seattle from arizona in december, is there going to be snow or ice in oregon or northern california and am i going to need chains or anything. or should I-5 be clear.
thanks
thanks
I drove up I-5 in late Janurary last year. There is only one pass in south Oregon that is any thing to worry about, it's around 5000ft I think.
Just go to the Oregon DMV web site and they have web cams at all the higher passes and you can see how bad it is. If it's real bad you can just drive up 101. It will take alot longer but you wont end up in a ditch.

its the siskiyou pass right over the oregon border from california on I-5 (there is a sign that says highest point on I-5 FYI) right before ashland. Its not too bad, it closes from time to time, and won't let anyone through. just check the DMV site like was stated before. good luck, and be careful.

So far it's been clear there so it should be ok. However, the weather dude last night just said that here in Portland we might get some snow on Sunday. But it's coming from the north (Canada) not the south (via the pass) so it might not be a factor for your trip.
Definitely check out weather.com and the DMV site a few days before you leave.
