Tire shops are dumb!
well my rear tires are almost bald and i was looking for drag radials to replace em with.. i went to just tires, gemini goodyear tires, and one in milpitas which i forgot the name..
gemini goodyears didnt carry..
went to just tires and this other shop in milpitas and they dont even know what drag radials are. he didnt even look at his inventory.. they said, there are no such thing as treaded drags, you wont find em anywhere.
i said are you sure?? ive seen em in person.. he than says thats BS and i probably seen something else..
what an IDIOT!!
yah i dont care.. ive been going to the dragstrip a lot..
i was thinking of getting separate rims for the drags soo i dont wear em out soo fast but i wanna see how much of a difference drags make before i commit myself to buying drag rims

well, I actually wasn't kidding about the "few hundred miles" ... you would have to replace them in about a week or so of daily driving. So, if you have a $4-500 to blow for a weeks worth of "trial" for these tires...
Just to clarify, here is an example of a drag radial:

You would have NO traction in any wet condition, and the tires are so soft, they would wear down super quick.

Local shops usually don't carry drags or slicks becuase there is usually not enough demand. You should just order them online from discount or one of the other tire sites. I have a cheap set of 5zigens mounted with my slicks- just swap them out for the track when needed.
You can talk to Rob at ZCarGarage (rob@zcargarage.com or 408-452-0350) if you want to talk to someone local. They use these all the time since they constantly go to the track. But I'd have to agree with Dan (neur0sis) that these will NOT LAST LONG AT ALL. If I were you, I'd get another set of wheels (like what failsafe does) to slap these on so you can swap them out when you go on the track. I wouldn't recommend driving this on regular roads since [1] you might get a ticket for lack of tread [2] wears out way too easily for everyday driving due to the soft compound [3] overall cost of replacing it everytime it wears out & [4] lack of grip on wet roads which can be real risky especially since our weather has been damp lately.
