Default Possible Meet Dyno Day for Feb 22nd. Santa Clara, CA

Hiya all,

Was thinking of doing a dyno day with mainly Z's and G's on the Feb 22nd which would be on a saterday. Nothing is set in stone yet.

If it is going to happen we need at least 5 cars, at 75 dollars each. Which is a pretty good deal. You can find out what your car is really pumping, or if you have mods, or want mods let me know we have some thing that we might want to test

Everyone is welcome to show up and watch as well. Anyways like I said this is still just a though so nothing set yet. Please let me know if you would like to run your car on the dyno.

Location is on Lafayette street at a Dyno shop called APEX Motorsports, they mainly work with VIPER's and Stangs. Its right off 101 and de La Cruz

Zya!
Yuichi

Talking Help me spread the word

Hey guys,

Help me spread the word or this won't happen. We need 5 for sure cars on the dyno at 75 a piece. After that every other one is just extra icing on the cake

IT would be the dyno just for Z's that day If you guys can help me get the word out it would be great I'll be making a final date announcement as soon as we get close to that number.

I don't think I will be able to make it, but I would certainly like to. It depends on the snow conditions that weekend

I was checking out this thread: https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....925#post193925

maybe someone should try this out......

OK,

I just remembered that I have a family engagement at 3:00 on Saturday, Feb 22 in San Jose. I should still be able to attend the Dyno Day as long as I can leave by 2:00.

Hope that doesn't mess anything up.

I don't see a meeting time posted anywhere. Am I missing something or is that still under discussion?

Depends on what Break-in theory you believe in! The Race / Motorcycle theory is that you want to get the cylinder O-Rings to seal right away for maximum horsepower, for this a Dyno would be great. The maximum engine life theory (as per Nissan) is to stay under 4000 RPM for the first 1200 miles. A modified version is stay under 4000 RPM for the first 400 miles and then occasional redlining, but no sustained high RPMs until 1200 miles (this is what I used), this supposedly allows the engine to wear in slowly with no damage resulting in maximum engine life. With this theory a dyno run would be verboten!

You have to decide which theory you will follow

DO NOT DYNO under 1200 miles!!!

A dyno is a test of your vehicles capability. The only way you'll get any useful info is to take the care near its limit (redline) Doing this without some breakin and an oil change can be VERY BAD!!

In new engines it's typical to find small metal shavings in the first oil drain. this is produced from small burs found on moving marts of the engine. Also, the Oil rings as stated before need some time to seal properly. It may not need the entire 1200 miles but you should not drive off the lot and onto a dyno!!

He is the way to think of it. If you are comfortable with the possibility that you may permanatly damage the interior of you engine, run the dyno. If you have the slighest fear that you'll hurt the car because your break in was not done properly then don't do it!

I have no problem taking chances or doing things not reccomended. I run 275's on my Track z.... thisis bigger that recommended, but I feel they are safe. Taking a risk is placing a bet, what is the payoff, and what is the loss?

Sorry to get all crazy, but I hate to see people damage a new car and end up burning oil in 6 months. take your time.

Default oil filter

about the metal shavings, isn't that what the oil
filter is for?

Also, I didn't see anything in the manual about a
oil change after 1200 miles...

Please explain more...

thanks,
rob

Not all metal shavings are light enough to get carried by the oil through the filter. They sit in the bottom of the pan. You just want all interior areas as clean as possible.

Oil is cheap so most of us have just gone ahead and changed it after the "break in" period. Of course the fileter too. Probably not necessary but why not.
