2 interesting Z related things happened to me this weekend...

1. I had the pleasure of doing a couple autoX laps in a Nismo Z33. The handling prowess of that car was very impressive to me. I really liked the flat cornering suspension set up. I wish my own stock suspension Z33 felt like that. On a 50 sec lap i was only off my own car's lap time by 0.6 seconds and the Nismo was on mediocre staggered bridgestone 050 tires.

2. A new auto trans. 370Z showed up at Saturday's event. It was interesting to me because it's the first time I've seen one autoX. It was even more surprising to me that the car was having serious issues completing a lap. The car kept dying out on course... apparently suffering from some sort of fuel starvation issues. The owner had a half a tank but it kept seeming like it was running out of gas and dying exiting one of the turns!

The 370Z was not starving from gas, it was going into Limp mode due to the oil temp rising to 240-250 degrees.

This is the main reason I will not be taking mine on a full day track day at Thunderhill with Hooked on Driving. I won the grand prize raffle at Blackhawk...woot...woot.

I am looking into ZCG installing oil coolers and possible differential coolers on both 370Z's before I waste a day in Limp mode at Thunderhill.

there is times when i'm the only Z out there ... there are other days when i'm 1 of 4 to 5 Zs or Gs.

Its pretty hit and miss.

The guy with the Nismo has been coming out alot lately ... he's a dood I met from 1 of my s2k owning frenz.

My cousins are also gonna start bringin their G35s out too.

I considered the whole "limp" mode thing after reading about it in magazine track tests... but the symptoms didn't match what I would describe as "limp" mode. there was no power cut or an rpm limit put on ... it was a straight up sputter and DIE coming out of a sweeper.

*Edit - I like calling it "limp" mode. The car loses its wood out on track.

When it's not in "limp" mode, does that mean it's in BONER mode??

Interesting...Could it be something with the fuel pump and the car going thru corners, that causes it to sputter and die, as it appears to be fine when going in a straight line. Just a thought.

Note: If it's straight up, I would say it has a boner...lol

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that fuel sloshing away from the pump while cornering starves it for fuel ... but I wouldn't expect that to happen with 1/2 tank of gas in a modern car. That is about as good an explanation as I could come up with tho.

Well played, sir!

It might be worth your while to check out Driving Ambition to do that... I'm fairly certain their prices would be very competitive with ZCG and you'd wouldn't have to go all the way to San Jose to get it done. I'm even more confident that the install would be a piece of cake for them.

IMHO ... If you are going to start tracking your car, and especially if u get hooked on doing it (you will be, trust me), then you might be better off in the long run having a rapport with a local tuner shop (every bit as capable as ZCG) that is familiar with you/your car and how u want to maintain/improve it.

Surely, you aren't planning on going out to SJ for every brake job, fluid change, mod, and maintenance job, are you?

That is a pretty sweet prize BTW.

Does it have an expiration date? When do you have to get out there by?

If you, or any other Zs are interested, I (and a few friends) will be on the track @ Thunderhill w/ TEAM Racing on Oct. 13. I decided to do this and call it my Bachelor Party being that I'm getting married 8 days later!

K...give your buddies a call at Driving Ambition. I just sent them a a bid for quote on our cars.

Normal maintenance? It's free - with the extended warranties I purchased through Nissan. I just provide my own fluids and the labor is free. If the time comes for a BBK then I will consider a tuning shop like DA or ZCG or I have connections at Kniesels in Rocklin. They did my last StopTech Stage 2 kit on the 05 Z33.

Thanks, I am pretty stoked for winning the grand prize at Blackhawk.

Expiration is 12/31/09

Was planning on going in Sept, but may have to delay it later until after the oil coller gets installed. Dunno if it works into the budget on mods right now. So if time runs out, I may just gimp through the course w/o an oil cooler.

I will try and time it for your time at TH.

Congrats on tying the knot!

I sent Bob @ DA an email for him to be on the lookout for you. You'll more than likely be talking to him at first.

I wonder if track day related maintenance would be considered "Normal". Sorry to be cynical, but dealerships can be so weasel-y some times.

I'm thinking you are probably a ways off from needing a BBK for track purposes... but I suppose one couldn't hurt if u have that kinda $$$ to spend. I find I'm still pretty ok with my regular non-brembo breaks and a decent set of hybrid street/track pads.

Ok... so u still got a good chunk of time to use it then ... that is a sweet prize.

What's up guys...

If you are in the market for rims/tires ... or know someone that is ... I got my Rota P45R's for sale with a couple different tire options.
