a/f gauge help
I wanna get an A/F gauge in my car to replace the volt gauge in the dash pod. I heard something about 03-04.5 are narrowband?? that didnt seem right but maybe im wrong. Anyways. What do you guys suggest i should run, and how is install on these things?
03-and early 04 models do use regular zirconium O2 sensors. What mods do you have? If you don't have a lot of n/a mods I don't really see the purpose of the a/f gauge and honestly think the volt gauge is more important
Plus with just one a/f ratio gauge you can only monitor one bank at a time, though some gauges do come with switches so you can switch between monitoring whichever of the 2 banks.
If you are set on installing it, I would rather get a two or three gauge pod and install it on the pillar. Because if you install it in the center dash pod, you're going to have two factory gauges and one aftermarket gauge and it'll look weird. The installation process is very easy. One signal wire (or two if you have bank switch-ability) and a power and ground; possibly an illumination wire and you're done.

yes, they are narrow band, and later cars are wideband
either way, aftermarket wideband gauges (AEM, Innovate, PLX, etc etc) all include their own dedicated wideband sensor. This ensures you're able to moniter the AFR in real time, without affecting your cars sensors, which would result in a check engine light.
Install is simple - power, ground, illumination, and switched power. The sensors included with the gauge all include a bung for mounting the sensor, so you'll need to have this welded into your pipe (post cat if you're running cats, or in the test pipe if you're running those).
Single bank monitering is more than fine on an NA and even a moderately boosted setup (I have this on my car, which is heavily modded) - driver side is what you want to be looking at since this will be your worse case scenario (since those injectors are technically furthest from the fuel source)

ah okay gotchya guys. So do you guys have any reccomendation as to brands? I wanna get the volt one replaced and just get an orange colored aftermarket one so it will match. the oil pressure i definitely want to keep but if it looks awkward i'll just get an aftermarket one in there too. I was looking at Defi, but i think i'd need a whole damn control unit just to run it? I just need one gauge so, yeah any help would be awesome. thanks again
Innovate, AEM, Zeitronix, are all units I've used with good results

true. good point. Well i'll look into some of those. I just think A/F would be slightly more usefull than volts. seeing as how last time my battery died my volts still showed 13... lol
