Z Car Garage Drag Racing Series resumes again for 2010. Win a pair of drag radials!
All the ZCG crew is going as well. There is another Z from up north going that goes a lot with Walt as I understand it. All us noobs are in trouble! We'll see what your car can do, Gabe! It should be fun (hoping it's not too crowded!)
DRAG RACING HOOKY DAY - WOOHOO! I hadn't driven to work in a long time (bus), let alone taken my Z to work. I'm loaded up and ready to go! See you all on 680 this afternoon!
It's 9am, where the heck are you going?
Hey now! What are you doing over on this side of the forum?
That'd be awesome if you could drag with us. You and Walt could fight it out for the set of DRs!

We were still racing when you posted that!
It was a good day - everyone drove home
We had a good turnout of Zs and Gs. There were 6 or 7 350Zs, 3 G35s, and a 370Z. We were able to get 3 practice runs in before the brackets started. Walt (Fowlman) made it to the 3rd round, so he has the most smiley faces so far. He dialed 12.9 on his 3rd run and hazed the street tires on his launch and ran (I think) a 13.1. The guy next to him was spot on with his 18.x run. Walt had been cutting 0.0x lights as well.
The 370Z was on drag radials and a stock clutch, so that only lasted two hard runs before Rob pulled it out and called it quits. Gabe's 4L G35 (https://my350z.com/forum/na-builds/4...zcargarge.html) was fast, but also had clutch issues so he parked it as well. I forget the exact numbers, but he was picking up a lot of speed in the final 1/8th mile.
The track was getting faster as the night went on and the DA decreased. My first run was 14.0, and I finished the night with a 13.5 dial and a 13.55 run @100mph with a 1.88s 60'. A varying headwind is typical at Sears Point, and it was there last night as the evening cooled down. That still leaves me off the top-25 list (need to be 13.494). I dialed in 13.45 on my final run but hazed the launch and red-lit with a -0.086s RT. If I hadn't lit, I would have won anyway as the guy was asleep at the tree and spotted me over .5s. Overall, it was a great night.

Next time I will put on DR's and go for a better time. 19" heavy *** street tires with no sidewalls are not the best for launching. I did spin the tires on that last run, but I still had a 1.981 60', not sure how though. My best 60' of the night was 1.964.
I'll have to look at the time sheets, but I think I am shifting too soon in first and second gears.
My kid took this picture of me trying to destroy those street tires.
