Default section 5a sux

Figures that I would be issued another ticket on I4 as I passed thru the section that just barely goes thru osceola county. Section 316.293.5a for "modified exhaust system which exceeds the noise emitted by the OEM" How many of the rest of you have ever gotten a ticket for this and if you have was there anything at all that you could do to get out of it. Its a $101 dollar ticket, I have the money if necessary to pay it but Id like to not. That countys law enforcement just really grinds my gears.

In addition to that ticket, 2 years ago in august in osceola county I was caught in a speed trap right after a traffic light where you turn left, was given a 82 dollar speeding ticket for going 6mph over the speed limit, SIX!!!!!!!. And about 2 months after that ticket I managed to net myself a parking ticket in MY OWN DRIVEWAY because its state law to not block a walkway for pedestrians and that was another lovely 63dollars that I just flittered away to the state coffers.

Big Rich, Idk how you do it man, I just dont get how youve lived in osceola county for as long as you have and havent lost your mind yet, Idk maybe I just have bad luck when it comes to it but osceola is the only county in fl that Ive gotten these idiotic tickets like this.

My Z has the stillen 2.5 cat back dual, but I wasnt in my Z, I was in my 240sx, its a megan racing cat back, 3in piping, I also put on a megan racing 2.5 dp and a 3in cat delete. I honestly think If I had a stock cat or even a aftermarket cat itd knock the noise level down alot. Sad thing is this exhaust system comes with a silencer in the tip, and I have yet to remove the silencer. It was a FHP that pulled me over, it just really grinds my gears that I got pulled over for something so stupid.

Ive owned 5 nissans since 2003, all of them had a modified exhaust to some degree, whether it be weld on axle back, or the full blown deal like my S14, never once gotten a ticket for something like this.

I would honesty have to say it was cause you where driving the 240 and not the Z... if a cop saw a shelby cobra dive by with a moded exhaust, along with a civic and a Z being moded... i think the cop would go after the civic before the cobra and the Z, its sucks but thats what i think. Cause when i had my civic its was a flowmaster muffler and cat delete but it all looked stock and it wasn't that loud. My Z with the greddy is louder and i have yet been pulled over for it (knock on wood again)... If you want to start a protest downtown about it im with you!...lol.... just cops being cops

Hey Chaz, sorry to here this but I hate to say that the violations u mention are traffic controlled in any county in the state of Florida.

However, on ur ticket does it say that this can be corrected???

If so u can have any officer or deputy that u know and will be willing to sign off on ur ticket and it should only be $7.

In law theirs loop holes to everything ask any lawyer it's how they make there living... You were given 316.293.5(a) Noise Abatement Equipment Modification which states that no person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle or any other noise abatement device operated upon the highways of this state that emitted by the vehicle OEM.

In 316.293.6(b) Exempt Vehicle states that any motor vehicle "engaged" in a professional or amateur sanction, competitive sport event for which admission or entry fee is charged, or practice or time trials for such event.

You have 3 options 1. pay the ticket 2.ask a friend that's a deputy to sign off on it or 3. fight it, you may or may not be so lucky and then have to pay the fine along with court fees...

I would make a bogus receipt and show that I have purchased a silencer or resonator and have fixed the problem...

Good luck my friend and I know how u feel bout Osceola county but it's just that there's a lot of street "ricers" here and that why their so strict...

I know it's a state law. It just seems that the dumb tickets always catch me when Im in Osceola. I asked the cop
about fixing it but he said that's not an option and that I have to pay the fine and still get it fixed which just seemed odd to me, I guess by word of mouth Ive always had the understanding that a modified exhaust ticket comes with the disclaimer that you can fix it and reduce or get rid of the fine. Idk. Was going to call the court clerk today and ask. Only 2 options I'm considering are paying it or if I can "fix" it then going that route. I wouldnt want to go to court to fight it, not worth it, I would like to have a lawyer I guess or cop, w/e, explain the law to me, because in that section of the law it says "cant be modified to emit a sound level above that of the oem exhaust", does that just leave the discretion to the law officer to determine that. Idk, Ive read it a few times now and it still confuses me, on top of that they throw decibel limits into it and that raises further questions about the law. Blah.

Edit: didnt get to call today and prob not till weds, tomorrows end of the month and that means itll be a circus at my work.

Called them today finally, that section of the law is non negotiable period unless I take it to court, no "fix its" or "on the way to an event". It has to be payed in full unless I go to court. Lady at the courthouse was at least nice enough to break it down and explain it. Im over it now, was just fuming mad when I got the ticket.

How many bikers are getting these tickets for their loud exhausts? I've never heard of one or seen one pulled over for it. I understand why they have loud exhausts, but they drown out just about every ricer exhaust I've ever heard.
