Default Question to you Hawaii Z owners

Hey there I had a few questions to you all out in the good ole Pacific. In the fall of 2006 I intend on attending the University of Hawaii as a transfer student and would like to know a little more about the area and more importantly the terrain. I have a highly modded lowered Z that i would love to bring with me but wouldn't if the conditions don't warrant. Any info at all would be helpful. I figured of all the people you all would know the area best rather than some travel guide online. Thanks a bunch for your help.

How low is your Z? What area are you planning to reside?

UH Manoa I'm assuming? I'm a student there. Nice girls around campus. Its nice if you like Asians. . .lots of them around.

Oh yeah, and other information. . .

Parking sucks, if you cant get a parking pass, its $3 to park in the structure, and they only allow 300 non-parking pass cars to park for that cost. What that means in real terms, get to school by 830-9 am to get any decent parking. The stalls are EXTREMELY narrow. Best stalls are on the roof, next to the exhaust vent thing. The four stalls surrounding those have the most space. They built a new parking structure, its maybe a mile or two away from the old one, but its out of the way from campus, but there is a shuttle that goes to and fro. I havent parked there before.

As for the road conditions, are you concerned about driving around without damaging your lowered Z? My Z isnt lowered, and I get around. I think I could live being an inch lower. My friends have slammed cars that get around. I guess they have their tricks to getting around

btw, what are you majoring in?

Al

Well thanks for the replies everyone. My Z is only lowered by Tein S-Tech springs so maybe .75 inches. I'm not on bags or anything. As far as where I'd be going it would be UofH at Manoa. I'm majoring in Pre-Med as of now. Right now I've learned the art of being stealthy with a car that is lowered and has a bumper that sticks out ( Ings+1 N-Spec ) so I shouldn't have a problem unless I'm going off-road a lot. Anyway another question is, as a student how hard generally is it to be employment around there as a student?

Well, I'm just about to pick up my second job. I have my regular job and I'm getting an on campus job. I dont think its difficult, the businesses in the area are willing to give students jobs, and there are jobs on campus. But on campus jobs have restrictions. You can only work 20hrs a week during the semester. During summer, you can work full time. Heres a link to campus job listings. https://sece.its.hawaii.edu

I wouldn't bet on any on-site jobs. If you want part-time work, go off campus, the pay will be much better.

Roads are OK around campus. That isn't the case around some parts of Honolulu, but that's generally the case everywhere you go.

Man avoid the parking lot, it's only a matter of time before someone puts a ding in your door. I haven't gone to school there in 10 years, but the girls here never become better drivers (I've even been in my car sleeping before class one day when I got whacked). If you're going to cruise around the area a bit, I would suggest a moped and a good lock.

I think you'll be fine with S-techs. I'd just be careful when it rains hard b/c thats when the gynormous pot holes come out to mess up your rims/suspension. during one of the last big rains I came off a stop light and didn't know what hit me. it felt like an elephant up-ended my car, but it was actually a crater size pot hole. it totally screwed up 2 of my rims. so just be careful when it rains around here cause no matter how well you chart out the regular pot holes, when the rain hits hard its totally different. not to mention some lower lying roads get flooded with 6 or more inches of water which could mess you up if you've got something like an injen CAI. I haven't heard of anyone getting hydrolocked, but I wouldn't risk it. hope to see your Z around.
