Default headers install?

anyone had any experience with installing their own headers yet? I was gonna grab a set of headers, down pipes, and y-pipe. But i'm not too sure on the headers installation. Vakamon said it costs $600 to install, and i was shocked! I know it must be a b*tch to install now, and i'm hesitant to install them myself now.

anyone have any ideas on what i should do?? do it myself, or take them in?

I wouldn't do it unless you got time. Never did it because of this...... The first sentence take 10-12 hours for install not my bag.

Yeah it helped me out a lot. I have the borla TD kit with test pipes and it's loud and pretty clean. I don't see the need in headers personally unless you really want to be loud and I guess gain more hp. Never really heard one with headers so I guess I cant dog it till i've heard it but it might be worth it.

Did you try price quotes from Sonic, ESH, or Barr's? I was thinking of getting headers as well, but not sure about the install either.

not really... all my cars usually go to Vakamon. I've been going there a while, so they usually hook me up with a decent price, and clean work. Some places see an expensive car, they think they can charge more for labor. Rad's for instance. I spent $175 for a custom 2.5" straight pipe exhaust for my turbo integra, but i already had a N1 muffler. I take my 350z in, and they charged my $170 to install my bolt on invidia exhaust. I wasn't sure if i needed to weld new hangers on, so i took it to them to make sure. They left in on the lift for about 20 minutes, and they took about 15 minutes to install the exhaust without any welding or fabricating. DING** $175!!

I'm going to try and call around tomorrow for more quotes, and i'll post it up on here the different prices.

nah, i'm not going test pipes, just aftermarket down pipes. And i already bought the invidia exhaust, and i'll just waste the money i paid for that, if i'll need to cut the original piping. Do you think the true dual will make a good difference??? I never heard about anyone doing that yet... I might consider it, if there's positive things people say about it.

Headers are a *****. For a first timer figure around 8 hours (that's what it took me and some friends). After doing a few (like Sonic said) it shouldn't take long at all. If you have the money, I highly reccomend having Sonic do it. If you have the time, patience, lift and nice reserve of curse words, knock it out yourself.

Oh, $320 for a header install is a great price.

Um yeah I learned that MANY MANY MONTHS AGO!!!! I feel yah man, the sticker shock is brutal some times.

Definately hit up sonics. They'll do you right man. Vakaman and Hypersport have always been WAY over priced.

headers has got to be one of the most time consuming installs i've ever helped with, and it's even harder when you don't have the right tools! took a good 10-11 hours with no breaks.

header installation is pretty quick. My first time around took my Dad and I about 6 hours, most of it was strategizing. Second time around took us about 2 hours on my cousins Z. My Dad did passenger side, I did the driver side. Of course it helped to have a lift and uber tools.
