6x9s are in the doors, and 6.5s behind your head... Heads up the depth in the door is really shallow for aftermarket speakers, depending on brand the installer might have to fabricate a bracket to fit em in.
I was looking at installing some aftermarkets, but for what I wanted (6x9s and 6.5s, no sub) the guys at Progressive suggested I change out my head unit with a nice 2 Din to clean up the sounds, and later, if I want I can put a 4 channel to pump up the power to the four speakers. I was told that the factory speakers come with a much smaller magnet which is designed to hit at much broader ranges, compared to aftermarket speakers which are made to hit specific ranges (Highs, mids, lows).
Now this is what I was told at a shop, the salesman/installer was trying to help me out, I was ready to buy the amp and 2 sets of speakers on the spot. But once he understood what I wanted, he did his best to help me out. I am in no way an expert sounds guy, so if anyone else knows a bit more on the subject, by all means please correct me.

i think someone got bad info, i have an 03 track and just upgraded my system. there are no 6x9's in the door. they are 6.5's all the way around. i also changed to a double din and am running a 400x4 amp to those speakers. if there are any specific questions or you wanna see my setup please pm.
no year / model of the Z has 6x9's in the doors, its all 6.5's all around.
I've got 6.5 661's in the door's getting 300x2 at 4 ohms from a RF 600.2(gain turned way down) and a FI Q 10 in the trunk getting 1000x1 at 1 ohm from a Cadence Daytona.
