FS: Alpine Mono Amp
New price: $80 and comes with directed rca cables!!
Hey guys, I have an alpine mrp-m450 amp for sale. Its used for less than a year. Perfect working order and looks almost new cosmetically. Looking to get $110 for it, bought it for around $200 at best buy.
Specs on the amp:
mono subwoofer car amplifier
220 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (400 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)
variable low-pass filter (50-200 Hz, 24 dB/octave)
tuned Bass EQ (0-12 dB bass boost at 50 Hz)
subsonic filter (15 Hz, 24 dB/octave)
MOSFET power supply
CEA-2006 compliant
STAR Topology (minimizes internal noise and prevents ground interference)
speaker- and preamp-level inputs
gold-plated screw terminals
fuse rating: 20A x 2
8-gauge power and ground leads recommended — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
9-3/4"W x 2-7/16"H x 9-9/16"D

im not too experienced with sounds, but i have a custom box that needs 2 10" subs and an amp. All i really want is something that will bump nice. im planning on buying the alpine type R subs, do you think this amp will be good with it? if so, ill take it off your hands.
It's possible to use it for 2 subs, but I wouldn't do it. If you are really into getting the most out of the subs, do all the math to calculate your cubic size (ported or not?) for the box. Then look at the RMS and ohms of the sub and amp. Then find out how you want to wire the subs up. Find a place to mount the amp.
I would buy a 2 channel amp since I'm not familiar with wiring up 2 subs with a mono amp. But this amp isn't too bad of a deal for it being an alpine.

I used to be a bass head junkie, flipping quarters on the roof of the car... listening to all kinds of Miami Bass... like DJ Magic Mike, DJ Laz, MC Madness, Bass Cube... My ears are paying for it now.
First off, you want a mono amp for your subs because we don't hear subfrequencies too well in stereo... though you can feel it on your chair. Running a mono sub amp will also benefit the overall strength of the bass, because both speakers will be outputting both the Left and Right notes at the same time (not divided by stereo which is has separate Left and Right tracks).
Most subwoofer amps are mono, 1 channel, and are rated usually to drive a max 2 ohm load. The best amps can drive a 1 ohm load.
The lower the resistance of the load (the speakers), the more power output from the amp, but it comes at a cost.... heat, and reliability.
You can wire up (2) 4 Ohm speakers in parallel and get a single 2 Ohm load by just daisy chaining the positive termimals of the speakers to the postive terminal of the amp. Ditto for the negative terminals.
According to the specs, this amp can drive a single 2 Ohm load... but again, how reliably and for how long? I don't know. Most amps have a thermal breaker.
You can also get a single 2 Ohm load by doing the same with a single woofer, but with dual 4 Ohm voice coils.
You can get a single 4 Ohm load by either wiring (2) 8 Ohm speakers in parallel, or again, a single dual 8 Ohm voice coil speaker. Running a single 4 Ohm load will have the amp run cooler and more reliably, but the higher impedance will limit the power before clipping.
There's the trade off, running a higher load for reliability but at a cost to power, or sacrificing reliability for more power.

If you buy 2 dual 4 ohm type r's and wire it to run 1 ohm this amp would be in your range power wise.

this amp gets the job done. It doesn't rattle the house... but i dont think any of us are in highschool any more... Sounds great and gets loud enough to feel without breaking the bank.
