Default Should I get stationed in Hawaii?

Hey, finally getting the chance to get the fuc out of southern VA and I'm considering going to Hawaii.

My Z is a track Z (literally track version and I don't daily drive it) and I'm curious to know if Hawaii has drifting events, autoX'ing, HDPE, etc, etc.

I'm F/I with a powerlab kit and tuned with Osiris. Is there a competent shop that can tune with Osiris and work on my Z?

I'm originally from SoCal and I know I can meet all my requirements there but some little voice inside me is saying go to Hawaii. Thanks all.

Hawaii is awesome but there is no track... yet.

Everyone here is pretty cool but the biggest headache would be getting safety/recon for your car. Depending on where you want to be stationed, getting a good place can mean how early you have to wake up in the morning to get to work. For example, I work in Pearl Harbor and I live in the Salt Lake area (Aloha Stadium side) and the only things available here are condos w/ no garages (so far I know). If you want a garage, you have to go further down west hitting up to Waikele/Ewa/Kapolei side... but it takes forever to get to work. I'm at 15-20 minutes to work while on that side can be 45-1hr (or maybe more?) due to the traffic.

As for shops... there aren't many. For Osiris tune, Munky Works pretty much has it down. Here is their info:

Sean

phone: 808-848-8794
email: munkywurks@gmail.com
address: 500 Alakawa Street #116-B Honolulu, HI 96817 (next to Best Buy Iwilei)
More info

A few good friends go there and I really haven't heard anything bad except that it gets swamped. I'm sure there are other places but this is the best when it comes to Osiris.

For community, Oahu Z hosts some meets usually once a month and lately there has been a lot more showing up. It's not as big as what it use to be but i'm sure they will get back into the swing of things. I'm sure there members will explain more in detail...

There are other "Teams" out there that you might be interested in but it's all word of mouth. You can check forumshawaii.net for stuff like that. Another thing to note, the G35/37 guys seem to be getting more active lately. G35driver.com would be another place to look for stuff happening around the community. A lot of good people on that forum as well...

As far as the roads are concerned, they suck. Pot holes everywhere but I understand "job security". My Amuse diffuser is trashed up already, hah. Like any other state/city, you just gotta know where and where not to go. Especially Waikiki with our cars... we would get pulled over in a heartbeat.

Again, I recommend Hawaii... lots of girls, the beaches, good duty, and overall relaxing. Just gotta work harder when it comes to "Import Tuning" our cars.

Oh and the COLA is bank!

Thanks for the info man especially about the girls. That was my next question. I was in mainland JP (Iwakuni) before and I went bananas out there.

Anyways, I don't understand when people have a tuned import without being able to ride it around. How serious are they about building a track out there? I'm not one of those dudes that talks about what their car has and/or can do without proving it. Know what I mean? Is there at least some super secret parking lot that people mess around in? That'll at least satisfy my hunger a bit.

Anyways, Hawaii sounds awesome from what you're describing and I wouldn't mind MAC flight'ing it back to JP for TAS. You said 'safety/recon' is that some sort of state inspection?

There is AutoX on Oahu, but no track (either road course or 1/4 - 1/8 mile). As far as I know drifting (legally) is a dead issue as well. AutoX is held at Aloha Stadium's parking lot, from what I was told no drifting because it marks up the parking stall lines. I dunno man I'm not big into drifting, so maybe someone might be able to put an area together.

As far as serious about building a track..........not enough money from either private citizens, or private companies. The track we did have was killed years ago (maybe close to 4 - 5 years already?). A lot of sketchy stuff happened (from politicians, local business people, and some shady characters). The gist of it is the land will probably be turned into commercial space although there is a faction down here fighting to get a track built. Unfortunately prior to the initial death of the raceway park the infighting between the private parties and sketchy guys all but assured we won't get any help financially from the City & County of Honolulu or the State of Hawaii, as it was specifically stated they felt they could get a track online through private means only.

Sad to say, but unless you want to run SCCA only I would look for other options (and shipping your car to another island to run a track there for a day isn't economically feasible for most people).
