Default Digital Camera Comparisons

Due to recent events, I've decided to get a new point-and-shoot instead of investing in a D-SLR for now. I'm pretty sure I want to stick with Canon. I thought the SD500 was pretty cool, but I don't want to invest in SD cards, since I have a bunch of CF cards. So it's down to the G6 or the S70. I like that the S70 is small, but I miss the swiveling LCD on my old G2. Can anybody give me better comparisons between the two? TIA!

www.dpreview.com

On the menu on the left side you'll find a menu item "shop for cameras" where you can use pick which features you want. The camera reviews on the site are very good too.

Cards are cheap now. I just got an SD500 to replace my S400. It's awesome.

Sorry to suggest something that's not a Canon, but any of the Nikon Coolpix cameras are extremely versatile and amazing quality for a decent price. The menus are really fast, and the camera itself is compact, even the ones at high megapixel ratings. Basically you can spend a lot or a little depending on features and be happy with this line of digicams.

CNET has them rated about evenly... that is, if you haven't researched via this avenue yet.

G6

S70

I'll still keep you posted on any significant deals that I find with the XT. Hope you consider what I said in my PM

I like my Sony DSC-F828. They seem to be hard to find now. There's a pretty decent review at dpreview on it.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I decided on the S70 because of the form factor. I'd lugged the G2 around on several trips before, and although it's possible to almost pose as a professional photographer with it, it was harder to get around with it, because I couldn't just stuff it into a pocket. The swiveling LCD was really nice to have, but I can live without it.

Considering I'll be a first year law student, I probably won't have enough time to take advantage of an SLR anyway. Given the functions I use most, the S70 has all of those already and more, so I don't think I'll be missing much. The lens is something I worry about, but at 7MP I'll have more than enough data to work with.
