to go along with the a620 deal, slickdeals also has a deal for memory cards from buy.com now. though i believe the "high speed 12x" is actually kind of slow. for comparion i believe ultra II is 66x or something like that. if you aren't going to be taking burst shots then no big deal. i think $35 for a 1gig slow cf card is definitely worth it.

A620 uses SD cards btw.

Yeah, if you're more into photography that might be a good route, but they're usually big, heavy, and require more experience. They also take clearer pictures, though, than the cameras with small lenses, because small lenses make the shot look hazy.

I just got a Powershot S80 myself because it's small but has a wide-angle lens, so it should be good for hiking trips. Otherwise I would have gone for the A620.

I also nearly got an Olympus C7070, which isn't SLR, but it has the best picture for the price. It was just too big for my to carry to the top of some mountain or a long trail.
