You'll only get 1.3 frames per second if you're shooting in continuous mode, which is only useful in sports or action shots. If you just want to take bunch of pictures and in a quick fashion to cover all the aperture and settings, it's too slow.(at least for me)

Im partial to Canon. I have a Digital Rebel. THe XT is an excellent starter camera for DSLR imo. Its not very expensive like the 20/30D's but still gives you mostly full control and ability to switch lenses. Ill see if I can dig up some of my shots.

I have some great ones from when I was overseas, but my other pc isnt working

Well I just got back with camera in hand.

Went to best buy. "oh those prices are only good online" fudgers! so I left and went to wally world "oh those prices are only good online" I figured **** well after shipping and TAX buying it online wont be that much better on top of the wait. so I picked it up from wally world. 60 days to return it no questions ask. (best thing about wally world)

Then saw that best buy believe it or not will let you buy it online and pick it up in the store for the online price (still waiting for a catch) Im about to sit 1+ hour in line at wally world to return the came and then head over to best buy to pick up the same thing.

saving $20.00 on my total OTD price and Im gaining another 512mb.

I wouldnt mind buying an SLR camera but that's a lot of money to spend on something I might not use for much other then basic play shooting.

I'm hoping to jump into this with both feet then like I said before, sell the H2 and move up to something alittle nicer like a $1000-1500 cam.
but for now. baby steps..... =)

BTW those are some nice pictures of the water. I love the water is choppy.

I'm going to try and get a few pictures on here tonight. That is... if I make it out of wally world before sundown. wish me luck guys!

You're right. I was looking at the wrong part of the review.

Good luck with your choice, jeffie7. I think it makes sense for where you're at right now. Post some pics for us!

Ok get this. I walked into wallyworld, head over to the customer service line, there's all of 3 people ahead of me... weird.... sure enough 2 mins later I'm up. this guy takes all of I I KID YOU NOT 30 seconds to wait on me. I asked the guy where I was. I told him this is not walmart. then turned around to the people behind me who were nodding and said whats going on. Told them how I came from another walmart and the line was backed up past the foodstation thingy mahjigger. on top of all this there was 1 single person working the line. ONE!!!!!!

go figure he was earily 20s some white dude that spoke perfect english.

I'm still in shock. First off. a guy that spoke perfect english and even more so he was talking with everyone. how are you doing. hey how has it been. oh hi how are you.... I'm not talking about people hes waiting on but everyone. super nice guy.
Right after handing him my 2 items I asked him if he needed to see my credit card. he said nope sign here. have a nice day....

wow.... just wow.........

Best buy on the other hand.... I walked in and asked the guy at the front where to go he pointed to the customer service counter. I said thanks and was on my way. I get there and theres 1 person ahead of me. cool beans there's like 3 workers standing there... talking.... about food..... one nice lady came up to me and asked if she could help. I gave her my paper and she said great I'll be great back. she walked over to the desk opened it up and found..... nothing. She came back oh I need to go get it. At this point Im thinking, shouldnt this be up front already? ohwell someone screwed up, thats life for ya. She walks away, comes back and once again super nice says Im sorry its locked up in the case I need to get someone with the keys. at that point she says so and so will be right with you with your items, she leaves for food.
So I wait, and wait, at least 10 mins before a guy comes over to me and ask whats your name. I told him my name and he says ok I'll be right back. so I wait..... he comes back with my items and says before you leave they need to clear it out of the system. so I wait in line again (only 2 people in front of me) another girl comes over with a "um" look on her face. I told her what the guy told me and she still had that um look... then she took it and said ok and scaned it and said here you go and I was on my way... yay pickup service rocks!..... no doubt it would have taken 1/4 the time if I walked in there and bought it off the shelf.

what pisses me off is they had so many employees walking around and standing about. I'm talking at least 20 that I could see, keep in mind I'm standing in the corner. they had soooooo many people on staff. and most were doing jack chit just walking around.

On top of all that walmart offers 60 day returns no questions asked on the item I bought. I just noticed best buy slaps a big sticker on it staying 15 day unopened return! if open 15% restock fee applys!

Wally world 1 best buy 0

p.s I'm still in awe of what happened at walmart.

I guess the 2.4 shots per second of the Canon S2 is an advantage over the Sony. The Sony is limited to seven frames at 1.3 fps. Why? The Canon is limited only by storage.

By the way, it's 1.3 frames per second, not 1.3 seconds per frame.

They were approx $600 each at B&H photo...the best prices on the net.

Second on the canon digital rebel... Canon is about 2 years ahead of Nikon technology wise. Yes the L lenses are expensive, but ohh so worth it... I also have a couple... But a full featured dslr is going to take you a lot farther. starting out with a digital rebel will get you in the door cheaply and once you decide if you want to go farther you will have a backup camera that will accept your lenses...

I have a Rebel XT (350D) and I like it. Still learning how to use it, but it's a camera that I think will help me move up to bigger and better things (hopefully to the 5D ). The XT is also kinda smaller so you should go try one out to see if it feels comfortable holding it.

I'm thinking about getting into some amature photography, at what point would it be worth buying a high dollar camera? I figure most of my shots will be of autos and nature, (I like water). Could I get away with a chaeper camera or should I invest in something worth while?

[QUOTE=jeffie7]...[QUOTE]

I like, but they look oversharpened. Is that how they came out of the camera, or did you post-process them at all?

It may look good to you, but I'd turn image sharpness down in the camera if you can. You can always sharpen the image later in Photoshop (or whatever) if you think it needs it.

I'm just learing the cam. There's an ISO setting that is defaulted at ISO1000. I started out using that for my first real shoot. next time out I'll try some at 800 and 500.

This is fun stuff =)

Great shots from a P&S. I'd never expect those photos to be from a non-DSLR.

Ouch. Noise on #3 is quite evident (one of the weaknesses of point and shoot cameras - limited ISO ... generally 400 and diminished image quality at the higher iso)

If you got yourself a DSLR, you'll find things to take pictures of, especially your car =)

Photography is a hobby I enjoy to relieve stress from the 9-5 M-F grind and a way to make additional $$$ on the weekends.

If any of you guys are ever up in the Lancaster, PA area (1 hour west of Philly) and want to mess around with a DSLR, shoot me a PM. I've got a third body (350D) that I don't use since it's a back up to my other 2 bodies. If anyone wants to get into the DSLR and need help with camera stuff, I'm more than happy to help anyone; I can talk camera stuff all day long.

jeffie, here are a few shots to push you towards a DSLR =)
