Default Tamron 18-250mm AF IF LD DiII Aspherical Macro f/3.5-6.3

Anyone have or tried out this lens? I saw some sample pix and a video on Tamron's website, and it looks like a good everyday lens for the size and capabilities.

But this almost seems too good to be true, so I wanted to see if anyone experienced any drawbacks or flaws. From what I read, it doesnt have image stabilizing.

Well just checking out a few reviews, its rather well rated and performs as I would of suspect it to.

I would say its worth considering.

Although I haven't used Tamron, normally lenses for similar companies get the job done but can pull a critical focus.

oh- critical focus is a cinematographer term dont know if it carries over to photography, its just basically a sharp focus on a specific field.

When I shoot am not too concern with a perfect focus, so I wouldnt be too concern about that. Unless you plan to do lots of landscape shots

Honestly, if you're looking for a lens that you plan on leaving on for a DO IT ALL lens, get one with Image Stabilization/Vibration Reduction.

If you're shooting with Nikon, they have one available in house that is close to that focal range, that has VR. Canon does not offer a lens with that type of focal range... dropping to 18mm.

But Sigma has this OS, Sigma's so called Optical Stabilization, that compensates for up to 4 stops... Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC OS.

Most "Do it all" lenses do not perform great, but "gets the job done." But your'e talking about not looking great for large prints. Though these lenses are more than adequate for internet/web display.

I say get image stabilization because you'll want to shoot most pictures at dawn/dusk, and it'll ensure the majority of your shots come out adequately sharp, even with low light. This is especially helpful for the 70mm + telephoto shots.

Thanks for the response guys!

c22- thats exactly what I was thinking regarding the image stabilizing. I take most of my shots in low-light settings so I think I would benefit more with that option. But I really like the range on the lens! Almost paparazzi style with how far you can zoom!

I think I'll consider then lens after I get one with IS.
