Need help with single RAW file..
hey guys,
i just got the canon 400D, and i took couple of RAW images. i downloaded the trial version of Photomatix to check how can i work with stuff before i go on and buy it..
so, i got this image in RAW format (.CR2). i can't view it in windows like any other image (even tho i download the viewer, but it still won't load the images).
2nd, how can i work with a single RAW image? i think i have to generate 3 to 5 different exposures to be able to create an HDR (please correct me if i'm wrong), but i don't know how to do that in Photomatix. "i've downloaded the images from photomatix website to check generate an HDR, but they came as 3 images, while i'm trying to do it only from 1 RAW image".
thnx for the help.

but does the raw file has different exposures? cuz i have photoshop cs2, and i downloaded the Camera RAW plugin, and was able to view the images. do i have to do anything from there other than convert it to TIFF?
thnx

the actual raw file does not have different exposures unless ure camera has bracketing. you would have to manually take the same shot at different exposures if it doesnt have bracketing. let me find the link i used.
ok, using photomatix you just open the raw image. it will automatically turn it into a psudo(sp?) hdr. it wont look nearly as good as a true hdr though. the best way to do it is by bracketing and then generating an hdr with those 3-5 images so you get all the different colors/contrasts. i struggled with it too trying to change the raw exposures into 3 separate images, then i found out photomatix does it all automatically!
