Default Brooks Institute of Photography

I've been seeing alot of professional photographers throughout the forums here. I'm going to be attending "Brooks Institute of Photography" in Santa Barbara this October and just wanted to see if anyone here has attended or plans on attending. Just want a get a feel for what to expect from first hand experience. Thanks.

I used to teach in their visual journalism department.

I think Brooks offers a good range of classes and the level of instruction is good. That being graduating from there does not guarantee a career in photography. If you are paying that much per class make sure to stay at the top of your game.... be competitive and push yourself to try new things. Otherwise you will end up one of many ok shooters with a degree in photography. Success in the industry depends on your actual work/portfolio and your network.

Brooks used to be tougher to get into, ever since they were bought out by a corporation they seem to pass and accept more students, regardless of the quality of their work. That is not a good sign to me.

I'm not knocking the school, I just ran across some Brooks students that weren't too hyped on their experience. Maybe it was just them being unmotivated and not making the best of it.

Thank you so much for the imput. My current photography teacher/mentor also told me the same thing about how in the past Brooks had gotten a bad rap about being bought out. And as far as the portfolio goes, They never asked me for any kind of work that I had done in the past. I had spent like 6 months too putting mine together.
