Personally, I have grown very fond of the Nikon 995 that we use at work. I have "borrowed" it many times for shooting my Z.

This camera is 3.34MegaPix and is great for my needs. I mostly capture images for computer or to have small prints myself. For others considering a purchase, I think it would be a waste of money to buy anything over the 3MegaPixel range unless you plan to print larger-than-8x11 prints.

Unfortunately, the Nikon 995 has been discontinued. I have been looking at the Nikon 3100 and Canon A70 recently to get something comparable.

My biggest issue is my attachment to the swivel body that allows you to hold the camera over your head and so forth to take pics... can't seem to find that on any affordable new digital cameras.

I'm really happy with the quality of the pictures that i'm getting. Pretty impressive for all auto point and shoot pics!

 

Are there cameras that can record video as well as sound? I'm new to digicams and am also looking for recommendations.

 

Most now record either in mpeg or quicktime. Sony uses mpeg and most of their cameras record in sound (as well as most other vendors).

The thing that differs among vendors is the max length of a clip possible.
