OK, I'm coughing up the $$$ to satisfy the lust. The 11-16 is now available from B&H!!! DOH! I had to make it an orgy (not quite like the orgy Bubble had with his lens hoes) with the Sigma 10mm fisheye also. Double DOH! And to top the decadence off, some accessories from Gary Fong... etc. There goes the plans for the engine dress up. Maybe with next year's tax return...

I'm already thinking about my next fling... the Sigma 100-500 OS. Triple DOH!

BTW, I'm selling the Sigma 10-20:

hey bro,

give me a review on that Tokina 11-16. How is it compare with your old sigma. I might pick it up to pair with my 40D.

I let you know after a few days after I get it. It'll probably get here by Tuesday. I'll compare just how wide the Tokina 11m is with the Sigma 10mm. Probably put the Sigma's 10mm fisheye's FOV along with them, just to illustrate the differences.

But...
here's Photozone's review:
http://www.photozone.de/Reviews/Cano..._1116_28_canon

The MTF resolution (sharpness) tests that they did with their copy are literally "off the charts."

Only weakness seems to be CA.

I can't wait to test it.

Bubble, I know you have the 1D, and you probably have a 5D also. I'm just wondering though, did you get the 40D just for the extra reach a 1.6 crop sensor body will get you?

I was thinking of picking up the Olympus E-520 when it is released. It's baffling that the 4/3's system would not be considered more by birders for it's 2X factor. I've been reading up on Olympus's lenses, as well as the Panasonic/Leica glass and they rival the best glass from either Nikon and Canon, if not sharper. Most don't have soft corners, just have vignetting and some are not constant 2.8, but a 2.8-4 is not bad... and with Olympus's in-body IS, I'd figure it's gonna be cheaper just to get the best long lenses as you'll not be charged for "in-lens" IS.

Plus, with extenders, you lose a stop to 2 stops anyway.

Did you ever consider 4/3s? I know you do some birding.

upgrade time for me! looks like i will be passing on my 350d to my sister and getting a 30d or 40d. i'll also be giving her my tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and will need to replace that.

any recommendations on a replacement lens for around 600ish or less?

the only other lens in my bag is a tokina 12-24 f/4. i was thinking of getting the tamron 17-50 f/2.8, and then down the road getting a canon 70-200 f/4 IS or f/2.8 non-IS.

You'll need a good 17-50ish lens... the EF-S 17-55 IS... but it's over $1000 now and some have dust issues going in the front element. The Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.5 has gotten great reviews, but has no IS and not a constant f/2.8. There's the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 EX DC, which PopPhoto rates very highly and is pretty much a toss up with the Tamron 17-50, except the Tamron has the slight edge starting at 17mm. Then there's the 17-40 f/4 L... about $650, which everyone likes, but you might miss the constant 2.8.

The only other lens that comes to mind is the thrifty 18-55 IS, sharp, but not constant 2.8.

For me, I need IS on lenses that go above 18mm. I'll not even consider lenses without IS or OS or VR or VC now.

I take that back... I'll consider the Sigma 50 f/1.4.

Currently, I have the 50mm 1.8, and Tokina 12-24 f4. I'm saving chips for the 70-200 f2.8L IS, then possibly the 24-70L. Then the 580exII, umbrellas...list goes on and on. Hell, if I could purchase skill, i'd do that, too

ctwentytwo, i get the 40D JUST for the extra crop factor to pair up with 600IS or sigma 800mm. When needed, i'll put in the 1.4x or 2x TC.

I'm not looking into getting 4/3 system since i have too many lenses from both Nikon and Canon now.

I had both Tamron 17-50 and Canon 17-40, sold the Canon. The Tamron is very sharp, cost less, constant f/2.8 and an extra 10mm longer.

unless u normally shoot low light, id highly recommend looking into the 400 F4 DO IS. i sold my 2.8 for the F4 and I am so glad I did. The pictures are 95% as sharp and is a HELL of a lot easier to use the DO. The DO weighs less then a 70-200 2.8L IS and i never use it with a monopod. The 2.8 is a ***** to carry around and requires a monopod bc it weighs so much.

for my current lens im pretty well set, just need 1-2 more 580ex2s and some pocket wizards

400 2.8 IS

400 F4 DO IS

i had it before (long..long time ago when i'm still having 30D). Just want to trying the new lens. It is like you have 6 prime in one.

11mm f/2.8
12mm f/2.8
13mm f/2.8
14mm f/2.8
15mm f/2.8
16mm f/2.8

Can't beat that. lolz btw, you might want to get a lens plate for your 400DO. it will balance out the weight when you have it on your monopod. Kirk P29 or P30 ($40).

How do you get in the press section? Is it possible for someone with no professional affiliation to get into that area?

honestly, i like it how it is. I just hold onto the end of the lens hood or monopod mount with my hand and just shoot freehanded, I love it.

Dude, have you seen Bubble's kids? He has alot of L lenses. The expensive ones. The ones you would take a loan out for. His collection is crazy.

Bubble, your lens collection is mind-boggling... to me anyway. For Donald Trump, it'll be ho-hum.
